I guess I got that going for me. But am I getting employed because I am the best person for the job? Is it because my skills and knowledge are the best of the lot? Or is it because the office needs to meet a diversity quota? I live in California, which doesn't have affirmative action anymore but I know that places still do it.
I just want to not stick out so much, you know? When you're white, people judge you on typical things like your dress, your manner of speech, whatever. But your race is default. When you're a well mannered and well dressed white person, that's not surprising.
When you're black you get all that plus a big "CAUTION: NEGRO" on your forehead. A lot of people become uneasy just being around you. You're immediately judged from a lower scale and fucking patronized for every "white" thing you do. You gain or lose points depending on how much your features lean away from or towards black. Big lips, wide noses, darker skin, you're fucked, you know you're judged more harshly. Mixed black people like me are luckier but not immune. It's a hassle.

I used to feel like you, but after looking at how our people acted in the mid 20 century America I feel like we can be worth something again. Frankly I wish so much that America was 90% white and 10% black again. That's when we were at our best and I'm ashamed we helped fuck it up with all the liberal immigration policy.
