What anime did you get most lost in? As in, you couldn't stop watching it and you couldn't stop thinking about it.
For me it was Planetes. The simplicity of being a space trash collector with all your friends was so appealing. I started dreaming about it at night.
>>28105603
>simplicity
It seemed pretty complicated to me with all the interdepartmental political drama they had. I'd have liked it better if they weren't always getting in trouble and having to resolve conflicts.
>>28105627
Well that's just the company drama. That kind of stuff doesn't bother me too much because you'll face that anywhere. But having close friends and being able to be in space seems so appealing.
>>28105603
planetes was one, jojo2 and jojo3, monster, NHK, genshinken
>>28105686
oh kaiji and shirobako too
Besides the obligatory Eva/EoE, which had me in a state for fucking months, Hunter x Hunter (2011 and 1999). It's just pure escapism done really, really well.
As an anime expert of 30 years and having earned my masters in anime studies at the University of Tokyo, I have watched over 50,000 hours of anime and out of all of them the one that stood out to me the most was the one known as "Korihowaitohausu de cho taihen!" (or "Cory in the House" for you filthy gaijins). Just by taking a glimpse at the rich color pallet and excellent animation techniques it is clear to see that the studio behind it knew what they were doing when this anime was created. The character development involving the main character Cory goes through multiple layers of evolution and depth, and this does not extend only to Cory but also to other characters in the anime as well. Surprisingly, Cory in the House was significantly better than the manga that it was adapted from.

I just started watching Hunter x Hunter 2011. It's terrible so far does the action get good?
Besides Planetes i would say pic related for the more grounded theme of conflict and Silver Spoon just because remembered of my dead grandpa
Legend of the Galactic Heroes
I'd watch 2 episodes every night and then spend most of my free time thinking about it. I'm glad at least some of the novels are being translated now, it helps bring the feelings back.
>>28106814
No shit man...who is translating? It's serious or another one of those translate the first 2-3 chapters and vanish?
>>28105603
Evngelion is what I Couldnt stop thinking about it.
Ghost in the shell is what I got lost in.
>>28105603
I watched this when I was way too young and it haunted me for quite some time.
clannad + after story, if you're jaded and cynical you might hate them though
>>28106862
It got licensed so they're actual physical releases. The first one came out a month ago and three are planned (with more if it sells well, apparently)
>>28106307
same here. it didn't get interesting for me until about episode 40. There's still a lot of "I have to train in "x" until I'm strong enough!" bullshit, but it's got me hooked.
I got lost inToradora. I alsofell in love
Zeta Gundam
>isn't that a girl's name?
>>28106909
thank you for brighting my day, have a toast in return
>>28107019
I'm pretty sure going into ZZ blind after watching Zeta is the biggest disappointment of my life
Tengen Toppa Gurren Laggan.
>that shit will fuck you up OP.
>>28105603
Everytime I watch eva I feel nauseous and sad, idk why. Only seen the series and EoV once.
This show is the most relaxing with good stories and excellent ambient soundtrack.
i don't know why this gets no love
>>28105603
>Planetes
complete opposite effect for me. I thought it was going to be a nice comfy slice of life show about grunt workers in space. it's not comfy at all, it's really intense and sad.
when I was younger I would get lost in anime really easily, I would watch all of those big endless shonen ones all day (naruto, bleach, one piece, fairy tail) I got lost in this for weeks at a time when I was a kid
For the last 5-10 years it hasn't happened much. I can only think of a handful of anime I couldn't stop watching. Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Space Dandy, One Punch Man, Baccano!, Ergo Proxy, Full Metal Alchemist. I watched those all the way through in basically one sitting.

>muh comfy
>>28107873
This.
can you explain this meme?
why everybody goes "muh comfy" on mushishi
It is still one of the best animes.
>>28105603
Planetes definitely, great annie may.
Kino no Tabi too, something about the atmosphere of the world drew me in. Not in necessarily a good way though, it's a very strange and eerie show.
>>28107916
yeah, it's not bad by any means, but /a/ssholes kinda killed it with their comfy meme
there was a thread a few months ago that got atomically autistic

I love Hunter X Hunter. The second half of the ant arc is some of my favorite media. Hiatus also ended recently, if you're keeping up with the manga.

This is a hard question for me since I've seen a pretty good amount of anime. I guess I'll go with NHK since its my favorite and it still never gets old no matter how many times I rewatch it. I know its kind of generic for NHK to be a robots favorite anime but I can't help it, and I've loved it since before I even started coming to this board.
Planetes is also pretty god tier though.
>>28105603
Planetes was the same for me. Just finished Boku Dake ga Inai Machi and it hit me pretty hard, probably because I'll never experience young love or relive my youth.
MY love story! was the bomb.
>taco muh nigga
it was just comfortable and completely engrossing
>>28108356
Watching NHK just made me hate neets and hikkis even more
>>28105603Tanabe is a cunt.
>>28108599
Well in NHK you're not suppose to like neets so it did its job.
>>28105603
Blue Spring Ride.
>inb4 girl anime
I like romance animes because it helps me pretend that maybe one day someone will love me too. Kokoro Connect was also good although it wasn't entirely romance but I really connected with the smart/bitchy girl and cried myself when she finally broke down and cried.
Anyone have any good romance animes? I currently have Honey and Clover and Clannad to watch next.
>>28108599
Not so much the anime but the novel really portrayed Sato as a shit person. Not as much as Yamazaki though
>>28108727
Not anime but Molester man is a really good romance manga.
>I like romance animes because it helps me pretend that maybe one day someone will love me too.
Have you tried VNs? They work really well for me in this department.
>>28108727
the manga is just terrible after the part where the anime ends though, it's a real shame.

>finally decide to make a MAL
>takes ages to fill in even a fraction of the series I've watched
>have no idea how many episodes of things I've dropped I watched
>no idea how to rate things I saw 6+ years ago especially since my taste has evolved
>know there's lots of series I can't remember the names of
Any protips to sorting all this shit out?
>>28109309
just do it slowly, over time. as your remember things you've seen or are reminded of them, go to the MAL tab and fill shit in.
>>28109309
Don't stress on the rating, mal is mainly good for just helping keep track of all the stuff you've watched and are watching at the time.If you can't really remember how you felt about a show then it probably isn't worth remembering anyway.
>>28109309
This is why I've kept an autistic excel document since I started watching anime
>>28108933
>>28109005
>>28109297
>>28109048
Ty, anons. I added several of these to MAL.
>>28109102
FLCL is getting a sequel. 2 new seasons on the way anon.
Anyway:
Tatami Galaxy
Jormungand
Lain
GITs
Oyasumi Punpun manga
Planetes
some of the animatrix shorts
Time of Eve
Hunter X Hunter
WAKFU universe even though its not really anime.
I find it hard to get invested in anything these days. Punpun seems to be more relevant to robots and this board as it is now though.
>>28105603
anime is never interesting enough to become fully absorbed in to be honest
