19 for me. I started traveling and investing more in my life at home. Video games just don't care compare to the joys of the real world any more. I don't have enough time for virtual reality.

After playing New Vegas and realizing that I no longer have the patience to play open world games or grind stats.
After realizing there are no xbone/ps4 games I give a shit about to begin justifying a purchase.
Around 25 years old when I noticed all this.
Right now I'm perfectly content with my 360 and picking up the big games whenever I see them at bargain bin prices. A couple days ago I bought Bioshock Infinite Complete Edition for $15. Don't think I'll ever "outgrow" video games completely.

I think I was about 20 or 21 when modern games lost their appeal to me. Bunch of brown and gray games about gunning down people in linear corridors with half baked stories that don't do anything new or anything interesting. The video game industry also engages in pretty shitty business tactics (like holding content behind paywalls and releasing unfinished games) and there is so much money, licensing and marketing involved that I'm just grossed out. Occasionally, there are good games that come along, but the grand and overwhelming majority of games that come out are just fucking terrible.
Retro games appeal to me more. You can usually get them cheaper than new games, even obscure games no one's really heard of can be as low as under a dollar and still turn out great. You get all the content the game has to offer by just buying the game. There are more games to choose from and generally don't force you to sit through 20 minutes of cutscenes made up of embarrassingly bad writing and even more cringe-inducing acting.

I've made this observation before in this thread, but I believe this says less about the person and more about the current state of the industry. I think we all began to lose interest in games around the same time. The industry is stagnating and catered towards mainstream casuals.

Most games are made for the teenage demographic. When you become an adult, the type of escapism most games give stops being appealing. I still play games from time to time, but mostly for nostalgia purposes. The last game I truly loved was undertale, and before that was the original dark souls. That's 2 games in 5 years, which made me realize I might not be the target audience for these sorts of things anymore.
When I realised I had to buy new equipment for new games that would invariably be expensive shitty timesinks.

This is what I started doing after modern gaming started to get stale. It is fun to find that one game you missed out years ago and have a blast with mechanics and gameplay that aren't hindered by modernization. I don't think any of us would out grow gaming per say but we sure do not play as often as we used to.

Novels and books are nice too. Probably the ones with the best plots out of any media. Generally, I ranked anime to the same scale as I do with movies and to a certain extent plays. Video games in my opinion are not even close to having a plot worthy of being compared to an anime or movie let alone a book. Then again, each media has their own strengths and weaknesses.
