I succeeded in building a bridge over a magma pipe in the mouth of a volcano as the entrance to my fort and saw something hilarious.
Elf invaders, most likely caused by my practise of sealing the trade post and flooding it for dat wood, would dodge my expert hammerdwarfs and plunge into the magma.
Every time, it reminded me of the fanservice episode of Outlaw Star where Gene ends up in a molten magma spring with Aisha.
Of course, the elves having no magma proof materials on them would instantly vaporise on contact with the surface, but this didn't stop me from exclaiming loudly, "THIS IS JUST LIKE MY JAPANESE ANIMES!"

I get to see their scorched iron equipment fall all the way to the bottom of the pipe.
So I decided to build fortifications into the volcano face and just use marksdwarves now.
It doesn't remind me of anime as much though.

I'd like to get into Dwarf Fortress modding though. It seems interesting because it's appropriately limited for someone like me who would dig into irrelevant stuff. But I don't get the game that well yet, I just understand some basic things. I don't get how adventure mode works though. My sister plays it a lot, she likes reading (somehow, seems like extremely similar text to me). I'd like to get to know her fascination with the game because to me it seems to not be played at a speed where you can grow a personal attachment to the Dwarfs enough that you care about how what limb was injured and how much. The game never seems to provide any overarching story for a situation, that'd be really interesting. I'm not sure how it looks on that front but I'd really like to try that. All the world describing information is there in a rather neat format (i assume). So there's probably something you can do with that.
