Dallas: Plano, Flowermound, Arlington
Austin: Anywhere if you wanna be a hipster or have SXSW in your backyard. Very pedestrian friendly.
Small cities: Corpus Christi if you want nice beach-side and Amarillo if you want a Texas feel but snow in the winter time.
Small towns: Brenham, Lake Jackson, and I would say College Station but that's starting to turn into more of a city than a town. Full of college aged people.
