All of the main subreddits are cancer. The content is almost 100% recycled, and the comments are always tumblr-tier trash.
Some of the smaller subreddits are alright, but the karma system leads to submissions aimed more at karma whoring than discussion. The only thing that reddit has over 4chan is the hobbyist subreddits

I don't know what it is about reddit that makes so many unintelligent morons group together onto one website. Echoing what's already been said, you really can't have an actual discussion on there. Again, the users on there are almost as stupid as tumblr users, if not stupider, and that makes so obvious who's a reddit immigrant when they come here and flood this board with their stupidity.

The upvote system acts as an "instant release" for people.
An internet user might feel happy and exhilarated when they receive the approval of others through upvotes or thumbs up, this results in an addiction to approval and leads to phenomena like groupthink. 4chan has this too to some extent, someone might reply "this" to your post or agree with you and it acts similarly, but here people at least get the chance to get called out on their bullshit.
Allot of people seek approval and want to be "in on the joke", this is why there's always a barrage of gullible redditors on this site who desperately try to be a part of this site by either tripfagging, posting outdated memes out of context, hating reddit, etc.
