>>
>>28086684
It's not my personal opinion. It's the opinion of the people I talked to. I couldn't care less about what is harder or easier.

Usually physics and mathematics majors study 2-3 hours a day and class lasts 8 hours each day. There is a joke in our university that people studying those two subjects don't have a social life, which is actually true.
Physics and mathematics teach you how to solve and think about problems and concepts.
Medicine is mostly remembering/learning, but there is a lot to remember.

I will say that to get into medicine you are required far better grades than for physics or mathematics since not many people want to study this.

>Luckily the validity of a degree isn't based on your personal opinions lol
What is this even supposed to mean? You think your opinion is worth more?

I only went to school for 4 more years than you, I don't know where you got the 10+ from.

If you're counting residency as school, then please note that I'm at least getting paid 62k for it. After 2 more years I will be making 200k (average starting for my field in my area), while you will still be making 120 at most. I will be 29 by then.

I am not from USA, I am from europoor country.
The average paycheck for specialist (6 years to become a doctor + 4-7 years of specializing) is 3100 euro (you take home 1900 euro).
The average paycheck for a doctor doing his specialization is 2000 euro (you take home 1300 euro).
Minimun wage is around 800 euro (take home around 550 euro) and average paycheck is 1500 euro (take home 1000 euro).
My mother has a masters from physics and is currently taking home 1500 euro and her job doesn't require masters (she completed it 2 years ago and is now looking for a different job).

i was doing biomedical engineering while i was working on my premed before i got into med school and i can say without a doubt in my mind that engineering is the harder subject and requires far more intelligence. unless you're planning on becoming a neurologist and doing lots of research (or cardiologist doing research or any domain doing research) then you're not going to do much else other than memorizes and learn how to diagnose people. this is especially true for those who go into psych or G.P.

If your MCAT is good then yes you can. You don't need a 4.0 for med school unless you're trying to go to Johns Hopkins as long as you have good ECs and volunteer experience.
>>
>>28087315
Okay, cool, thanks. Know any which take a decent number of Canadians? I'm freaking out because according to the MSAR not many get in.
>>
>>28087312
The problem isn't which school accepts the most Canadians. The problem is that you're an international student and you are going to pay a fuckton to go to an American medschool unless you somehow get a full ride.
>>
>>28087347
Honestly i'm fine with that. I've saved up a lot from being a pharmacist and can do it in the summers. Mostly I just want to do something I like rather than this McDonalds tier stress monkey job.

Electrical Engineering major checking in

It's not hard imo, anyone with a solid background in maths and programming could easily adapt to it given they're willing to put in lots of work.
>>
>>28087371
I don't know how much money you have saved, but the issue with international students at American schools is that usually they require you to put a fuckton into an escrow account because they want to be sure you can pay for it. Like the whole fucking tuition at once. Also it's incredibly hard for internationals to get loans.

Here is more information that you might find useful that kind of just reiterates what I said.

Why are you opposed to Canadian med school? Despise socialized medicine that much?
>>
>>28087460
Can't get in. The average is 87% in the province i'm in and out of province you need to get 5% higher than that. Unfortunately my GPA just isn't good enough and I don't htink my ECs make up for it. Hopefully they think having a pharmacy degree is a big deal, i'll apply but i'm not hopeful.
>>
>>28087488
You still probably stand a better chance at getting into a Canadian school than an American one. You have to understand that there are many others just like you that actually have 3.9s and such that are applying for the same seat.
>>
>>28087512
Canadian med schools are notoriously harder to get into than the average MD/DO school in the US. It's like trying just for top-tier US MD schools in terms of competitiveness.
>>
>>28087534
Best of luck to you then.
>>
>>28086105
getting a phd in EE is harder than finishing med school.
as long as you are good at memorizing you can get through med school.

I'm a premed and I know some med students, your 'woe-is-me' post is full of shit.

>at 40k
ranges 60-90k where I live, and some residencies are shorter than 5y

>the scrambling to study for board exams
ooh wow studying for exams related to what you've been doing at work all the time, how awful.

>the pressure to maintain a certain grade for your residency placement,
most MD schools are pass/fail. If you're talking US and Step1 scores, some residencies don't need high scores while a few competitive ones do, but you get tons of time to study for that test.

>the fact that your 200k+ in debt,
Let's be honest, there's a 50% chance a med student is from a rich family so it doesn't matter. On the other hand, most schools offer big scholarships (often full rides) for truly poor students. Regardless, an MD averages 10 mil over their lifespan so what's 200k + interest going to matter?

>most of your co-students are actually pretentious nerds (like yourself)
How can you be pretentious about it when MDs are literally going to save lives? That's not pretentiousness. Also, it's one of the most applicable and practical things you could study in life, so it doesn't really draw 'nerds' to it. True nerds don't even make it past the normie-test interviews and the extracurricular social requirements.

OP here. I don't live in Freedomistan. My overall debt for 7 years of med is $75k. I don't need to pay that off until I start earning.

But with my internship salary ($115k pa), I'll have it paid within the first few years comfortably.

>>
>>28087830

>>
>>28087807
The only bad thing you've got going is residency b/c of the tough hours and pace. Once you're an attending you'll be pulling 300-400k minimum and paying back the debt in no time.

Also it's funny that you're in Canada because tuition is a lot cheaper than the US and interest rates on loans are a lot lower (something like 2.8%? kek). You literally have nothing to complain about.

It's funny that you think your attitude will do you more good than mine for anything though.
>>
>>28087847
Australia. Average starting salary is between $85-120k coastal. Upwards of $150k pa rural.

Being a med student is suffering, especially if you're not a full-fledged normie. It gets worse in clerkship, and then worse in residency, and then being an attending is the fucking point of it all but I'm only going to do that for a few years and then retire as a perma-NEET on 30k/yr from savings. >mfw I wont even get a psych. related job as they are non existent because its mostly nepotism field

I still dont regret it. I learnt a lot that I couldnt learn from regular books but I will have to live in poverty because of that.

Also its not true that hard sciences produce more capable people. The only capable people are those who care and study on their own, even if they are not in uni. That is not how the world works today though but there is no point in caring about efficiency if everyone is hiring based on nepotism so basically family and friends.

I enjoyed talking to people who are passionate about their subjects more than to elitists even if they studied history or literature. I also found out that engineers were better at practical logic than most of the meme STEM meds, chemists or mathematicians.

Wish me luck on my journey to becoming a travelling homeless philosopher.

I know how it works, there are other docs in my family. You're in the darkest part of the tunnel right now and it's not unusual for a resident to start getting cynical about things, but the reality is being a doc is auto-top-1% lifestyle, earnings, and prestige. Being an orthopod is icing on the cake even.

I'm not worried about making it in or getting through. The amount of self-pitying and complaining that med students or residents do is laughable though. How could law be hard? You literally just need to learn the laws/procedures and apply basic reasoning.
>>
>>28086105
so you're friends with the institute, huh?

>>28088207
Yeah. In some countries the procedures and laws are so fragmented and there's so many of them that learning it all is a nightmare, but it's really not as bad as some people make it.
>>
>>28088222
This is true. Also the difficulty varies between different unis. You can study some soft science but have harder time finishing than hard science. There are unis where you have to take 3-5 times more information because its soft science compared to hard sciences. Its really impossible to generalize and reduce it based by fields of study.
