do you think free will exists
>>28082276
No, but it doesn't matter so just imagine that it does exist.

yes

What makes you think that it does not?
>>28082276
Of course it does. How is that even questionable?
>>28082276
IMO it doesn't since it all eventually leads to your death. Nothing you can do will prevent it. Free will doesn't exist because no matter what you do, it's a predestined outcome.

This, basically
Free will is an illusion/abstraction of our decision-making process, which is the result of computation of external stimuli via instinct and learned experience
>>28082276
No, everything you do or think is decided by something that happened to you in the past.
Your fate was decided at the inception of our universe.
Stack dominos side by side, then push them. You'll see what I mean.

>everyone has different definitions of a nebulous philosophical concept
>not defining free will
>expecting to have a meaningful discussion
>>28082276
It doesn't.
"You" aren't the author of the thoughts that arise in your consciousness. It's an illusion.
Here's a simple experiment you can do to demonstrate it:
1. Pick a number between 1 and 10.
Now why did you pick that number?
Answer:"You" didn't. It simply appeared in your mind. It's the same way with anything else.

Pls define "define"

poor analogy desu
>>28082471
Tbh poor argument in my opinion. As proof of free will people can greatly extend or shorter their lifespan, is that not free will?
>>28082276
Not really. Environmental stimuli goes into preset brain program, your exact thoughts and actions are the only thing that can result from that
Good taste though, Electric Wizard is some top-tier doom

>All material actions have causes
>our consciousness is composed of material actions and causes inside of our brain
>therefore, our consciousness is caused inside of our brain
>therefore, the material actions and reactions of our brain determine all of our thoughts, our consciousness, and therefore our actions and will
>therefore, our will is not our own
The only way free will could exist is mind-body dualism, for which belief in the soul is necessary. Not sure which I specifically subscribe to.
>>28082276
If physic permitted time travel backwards, that would be the closest thing to free will because you could see how your choices affect you and your life, if at all. Physics literally makes it impossible for you to know if the fork in the road leads to the same exact destination. Free will goes against the laws of physics.

Hold up i think you guys are trying to justify your failures at life using physics as means to tell us we never had a choice.
>>28086333
It's true though. How could the mechanics of our brains possibly lead to different outcomes when we have no control over them and our consciousness is only the result of these processes?
>>28086374
i know its true but don't let yourself go with this defeatist rhetoric man.that's when the normies win
