I won't even comment on how valid the belief system is because that's another point entirely. The point I'm making is that they have a belief system. They have a coherent foundation going into the drug, so it's something to hold on to and anchor themselves with. Whether it's right or wrong is meaningless, the point is that they believe it and therefore have a mental landmark to hold on to.
