Not true actually. A lot of life insurance policies have suicide options, but they normally have a 13-50 month cooling off period.
I'm currently on month 7 of my 13 month cooldown period. I don't intend to kill myself in 6 months but I know I'll probably one day and I'll need it for my family.
Read the company policies PDF. Do not take 'everyone accepted' life insurance as that usually does NOT cover suicide. Call them up, talk to them about it.
If you have ANY history of depression (recorded history that is) then you're out.

Nope. At least the people I talked to didn't. I'm certain there's nothing wrong with discussing the suicide policy and insuring it's part of your policy. And any insurer will provide you with the details of your life insurance as part of a pack, which will include suicide cover.
I'm sure if you rattled on about it and made it the entire point of your call they might get suspicious. But be mindful of the fact that suicide is the second highest cause of death for people aged 15-25, so it would be wise for you to include that as part of your policy, no?
The worst thing they can do is refuse to insure you, in which case you move onto another company. But most insurance companies put the 13-50 month wavier period in their suicide clauses for a reason... it's because most people who are even absolutely certain they'll kill themselves and take the policy out don't end up doing it.
