So i Finally dropped my useless art graduation, to try another one that actually is worth something. Here in my country, universities are public and free. To get inside the best universities, you must do a national exam in november, which covers all subjects from highschool. Shit's pretty hard, most people prepair and study for a whole year to have a chance on it. That's what I'm doing now, attending classes at a preparatory course.
It kinda feels like highschool all over again, but with older students (I myself am 22). I thought it would be a nigthmare just like my old times, but it's been actually pretty chill. I managed to find a nice group of people who I befriended, 4 girls and another dude, and we have some fun together. Apart from all the intense studying schedule, more than 14 hours a day, it almost feels like being a normie...
The problem is, there is this weird guy sitting next to us. He remind me of my 16 yo self, but he's an adult already... Unkept overly grown hair, unshaven, extremely pale, looks down and sad all the time, never talks to anyone, never says anything, spends the break sitting alone drinking coffee and listening to music in his earphones, sometimes so loud that we can hear what he's listening from afar. He looks like he is on the verge of suicide. And he became the laughing stock of the class. My group of friends specially make fun of him everyday, sometimes in front of him, and I think he notices... I don't even know his name... Poor guy is pretty dumb also, he can't follow the classes, and when he does make a question, he stutters in a high pitched but very weak voice the teachers almost don't hear, and it's almost always some very basic knowledge shit that makes evident that he's either pretty dumb or slow to learn...
I'd like to help him, as I would have liked someone to help me when I was a sad teenager... But how can I approach him and befriend him? The guy almost looks like he has a force field of social impenetrability...

It's the contradiction among shy and introvert people. At the same time loneliness and isolation is killing us from inside out, we still sustain a barrier to any form of social interaction, pushing people further away. I was like that... Despite wanting desperately to bond and find friends, I pushed everyone that tried to talk to me away. Many people tried to talk with me, and I was extremely rude and unresponsive, until everybody got the message and left me alone, which I hated even more...

What would have helped me was some sort of "forced" or "official" socialising... things like ASSIGNED group work, not fucking "pick some friends to make a group" bullshit. I needed someone to sortof repeatedly push and elicit responses from me for long enough to feel more open and confident. But not in any way that makes it obvious it's a pity party for me in particular.
I really think group activities with assigned, rotated groups - and done regularly - would be really valuable for people like that.

The damn guy has even some nice facial aesthetics. I believe he could be pretty handsome, but that damn hair... It's ridiculous, really. It looks just like this, but in normal colours of course... A mess. If he wasn't weird there wouldn't be a problem... I'm bald, the other guy in my group outgrew his hair to comb over his baldness(which is pathetic), and there is a guy with mullets in the class as well, and it's all ok. But his strangeness adds up with the psycho hair and it's almost cartoonish.

If you wanted to do good you could pretend to be angry about something, scold your friends then sit next to him and talk to him about mundane things like the classwork, your friends might make fun of you too, but deep down they will respect it, if not now but in the future when they are out of college, no one has to put up with their shit anymore and they are occasionally on the receiving end.
After a while you could ask him why he looks down all the time and suggest he goes to the counsellor and gets help, you could talk to the teacher as well to encourage him.
It would take little commitment, you don't have to drag him clubbing and try to teach him to be a Chad, just have conversations with him in and after class. You might even get something out of it, if just the knowledge that you will be spared if he goes on a school shooting.
