High Definition footage on home video formats has been possible for god knows how long but it was made available to consumers when it was cost effective enough to sell to your average consumer. Video calls were first made in 1936 in germany, but it wasn't cost effective or viable until the internet times.

I wonder what it was actually filmed on. The title says it's a demo for an HD VHS system, but that's just the playback format. I wonder if it was some ridiculously expensive early HD video setup, or if it's a film transfer. (I'm almost guessing the former, because the footage doesn't look like any film stock I recognize or like it was shot on 35 at all, more like today's small HD video sensors.)

I think one of the take-aways is fashion of the past never looks quite as dated or ridiculous when you see it in practice by regular people.
You can see the 90s fashion styling in this video, but none of it is overdone. These are not celebrities or people in magazines. These are just people going about their everyday lives, and they look normal doing it.
Any of these people could walk down the street today looking exactly as they are and no one would bat an eye. They might think to themselves that person looks a bit dated, but then they might also think it looks quite good (especially in the case of the women).
