This thing is actually really common with normies.
It's a sort of alpha status thing, it's like I remember Obama making similiar comments, about how Michelle 'puts up with' him, etc - I think what's being communicated is "I'm so Alpha that I can be humble and mocking of my own ego", the person making the joke feels that they can poke fun at the female social collective's immense power because they consider themselves 'safe' with women.
You'll notice politicians and christian pastors do this a lot - it's basically a way of subtly, maybe unconsciously, telling women he's not a threat and that he serves the gynarchy.
