Hello fellow anon, here's a little story.
My parrot died from tumour before two years. I needed a week or two to get over it. He (or she, dunno) has just bonded with my family and died short time after.
I was afraid of the same thing bro. "What 'll happen when Kiki(his/her name) dies, how will I get over it". Not only that he died but it was really painful death. It was obvious. But he/she was also really old (12 years old budgie, 8-10 years estimated lifespan). It was really painful watching it suffer. I remember holding it in my hands as it painfully watched me directly in the eyes. It leterally died in my hands.
I don't want to scare you, but you will probably overlive him and have to deal with the sadness. That's the one of the prices of having a pet, bro, but you'll eventually overcome it. Don't worry about it, and have great time with your dog while you can! I didn't really play too much with my pet, so that's the advice :)

When I was growing up my mum got me a border collie puppy, because I had no friends and was getting bullied everywhere I went. She was my best friend for 8 and a half years, until one night when she got hit by a car.
It's been a few years now, life moves on, but I still think about her. She was the reason I got through high school without killing myself or someone else, she deserved more than to go like that.
