no matter what field you're exploring, you've got to figure out your way of doing it, it's more fun that way and will sustain you. for example with art, if you hate doing stiff academic studies, then draw from imagination. Find an artist you like with elements that you can steal reasonably easily.
search around until you find a process you find fun (I like drawing from imagination with pen and repetitive mark making for example). doing this kind of work may eventually motivate you to tackle more "boring" technical stuff because your imaginative work will need it
this is an advantage music has over art I feel, because if you can't play a song well it's not quite as soulcrushing as a bad drawing. If you do art, try doing some copies of simple line drawings. make it achievable. Or, find a field of creative expression that allows for easy editing. Sometimes I take drawings into photoshop and mess around with them in all sorts of crazy colours and textures, make a figurative drawing abstract and so on. Because you can undo anything you don't like, it doesn't feel as heavy. It's hard to get over that frustration I'll admit, but this is something everyone has to come to terms with in their own way.
