I want to eventually shave with one of those old school straight razors. What I really don't get is how people shave their nuts and asscrack. I want to shave that shit because I am tired of finding stray hairs all over my bathroom floor, but I don't know how the fuck people shave that shit. I get some scissors to snip my ball hairs, but I get like 10% of them and give up.

Wet your balls, put some shaving cream on them, take a safety razor and shave that shit. I always use a new blade when I do this and holy shit does it work well!

I used to shave with a regular razor because I kept my cheeks smooth, but after I decided to grow a beard I threw that shit in the garbage.
There is nothing good about having to bust out the cream and shit, it's so fucking annoying. I use an electric for trimming and couldn't be happier. You should try the same.
Using a straight razor would be pretty manly though.
I haven't shaved in three years. For the first year it was just laziness but then I got used to having a beard and realized that it also hides my weak jaw.

I've shaved from everything from a disposable BIC razor to a gen-u-wine 1920s straight razor that I hand sharpened, honed and stropped.
Anything that has plastic in it is trash, i.e. BIC and cartridge razors.
Shaving with a straight razor is autistic. Yes, you can get a very close shave and it technically never runs out of blades, but it's a pain in the ass to use on a regular basis. Not just upkeeping it, but the way you hold it and the precision necessary make it a headache.
The perfect middle-ground is the safety razor. You just buy blades and throw them into the holder. The holder can be cheap (perfectly workable) or expensive (adjust shit and make it even better). Most razor blades are perfectly serviceable and C H E A P.
The last set of blades I bought were some random ass, probably (hopefully) Russian blades from Amazon that were $11 for 100 blades in 5 round boxes within a larger dispensing box.
This means that when I shave 2-3 times a week, I can easily afford to throw a new, perfectly sharp blade on every time and get a perfectly smooth shave every time, even if it's just my cheeks and neck, since I wear a beard.
What you actually should spend money on is a good badger hair brush and decent shaving soap (Colonel Conk is great).

If you are American and have a bath and body works near you, go in and grab some c.O. Bigelow shaving cream. It is repackaged proraso shaving cream, an excellent Italian shaving cream. You can get a travel size for $5 to try it out. It has menthol and eucalyptus, which is great for summer, and it is one of my favorite creams.
