I've been trying to watch this and I'm about to drop it
Yes, the visuals are impressive, but the story is butchered, the characters are thinner than cardboard, the dialogue is terrible, it's rife with anime stereotypes/cliches/tropes, it feels like the creators wanted to pander as much as possible to weebs without presenting a quality version of the story.
It's literally just eye-candy. Am I missing something? Is that the only real appeal of the show- the unique animation style?

Evo fanboy here. Literally saving up as we speak and working towards the final edition x. I love anything evo. But I do love the gt-r any year. And I would never own one due to the rivalry but STIs are awesome too haha. And of course I have love for supra. I find a lot of the Honda scene to be pretty cringe desu. But I still respect them as part of the community. Integras are cool if done right. I've been considering trying to find a crx for a garage build.

I read both Berserk and Vagabond. I like Berserk more. As far as Samurai manga go I prefer LW&C and Shigurui over Vagabond desu.

NGE is literally Ideon and Devilman, Anno and Sadamoto have said this themselves. The tone of Ideon, the way it uses mechs in a more serious manner, the way it had two movies of which the first was parts of the TV show with new animation and then a second movie with an alternate 'real' ending of the show and even the actual ending of that movie were all heavily rehashed in NGE.
I do like NGE though and one of my favourite animators, Yoh Yoshinari, worked on it which is a bonus.
Also Getter Robo was by Ken Ishikawa. When making TTGL Imaishi said he was going to make it as much like Getter Robo as possible because he is a huge Ken Ishikawa fan boy. People co-credit Go Nagai for Getter Robo but his influence on it was incredibly miniscule, it was all Ishikawa.

Damn. Yea we have some very choice roads here. Very smooth and foresty. One problem with initial d is that ae86 beats everything including some cars it would never beat irl ever. It makes me sad. They should have paired more cars up and had a looser plot with more focus on the cars
