South Korea is largely a completely westernized country. Take Japan's commercial infrastructure and ramp it up ten fold and you have South Korea. Having been injected with billions of US investments, it makes sense that media consumption increases as their tech sector becomes more prominent. Consumption of western media (pretty much the only 'global' media) = having western morals. My korean friends say that every weekend is a club weekend and drinking/smoking is just such a large part of the social culture.
The Chinese have no regulation on synthetic finance and are currently ramping up to have a housing bubble on par with the 2008 financial crisis except on a more contained manner. They have had several stock market crashes since 2006 and all the corrupt politicians and business owners are currently funneling all their dirty money into houses in California, Texas, and Canada as they prepare to leave.

I'm sure there'd still be a degree of culture shock in South Korea for any Westerner. Language being the most obvious factor. Isn't it still relatively conservative compared to most Western societies too? Porn being illegal, for instance.

used to live in shanghai for some time. good times.
with effort i mean not falling for the first girl opening her legs for you. know about her background. also learn to know her personality really really well. you won't know what she's really like unless you have seen her in situations that caused her stress or anxiety.
also you will have to learn about various cultural aspects. she's coming from a farmer's family? she will expect you to pay stuff for her family.
you can't find a job with a stable income? beware that most chinese women will dump you and look for some other guy. most chinese women who are higher up the social ladder will expect from you to own an apartment or a nice car. otherwise they won't see you as a suitable partner. and so on. there are so many cultural and social implications you won't even think about but which will have a tremendous effect on how well or bad your relationship with a chinese women will go..

spending your free time is like in most other large cities. you can go shopping, eating, sightseeing, go to theme parks, museums, whatever.

Absolutely. It's also important to be aware of the sheer amount of warfare and rape in China's history. They were hit particularly badly by the Mongol invasions. A lot of historians think they never truly recovered, which is why Japan was able to modernize independently but China wasn't. (Incidentally, in Europe Russia also suffered through Mongol invasions, and they still lag behind Western Europe).
Peoples with a long history of warfare and rape are culturally and genetically more violent and dishonest and less empathetic. Combine this with Chinese Communism completely removing any religion or respect for tradition, then the introduction of aggressive neoconservative American capitalism in the 70s and 80s, and you have the perfect recipe for a soulless dystopia.
Though things will probably improve drastically in the coming generations. At least the one-party state can implement improvements more efficiently than a democratic country can.

I met a Chinese student while I was bumming around doing a uni degree I didn't really like. She had just finished her Masters degree and was offered a job at a bank back home in Harbin. We were pretty in love and she wanted me to come back to China with her and get married. She convinced me that I could be an English teacher (as in TESOL) while she did her thing and all our expenses would be pretty much paid for since her parents are quite wealthy.
Since I pretty much had no direction this seemed like a good opportunity. Never thought that it would have been as good as it is though. Harbin is awesome, cold pretty much all year round (how I like it), GORGEOUS women, good food, nice family that I'm in now. Living very comfortably teaching high school students while my fiance rakes it in at her bank job. Best of all ZERO niggers ZERO arabs and ZERO poo in loos.
CS major in school. Front of the lecture hall is actual China. They coming from big money to get big money. Don't know about moving there, but mandarin is probably a solid language to learn
