>tfw no one will ever pay me to do what I love

I just like researching, archiving, and cataloging information about Silent Hill, specifically Silent Hill 2. It really is a shame that all this work I put into it is worthless. At least I can feel confident about my lore interpretations.

The game is well over a decade old, anon, and Team Silent is disbanded, and Konami is not going to be expanding on the lore any more.

You could at least go for a game series that is still getting releases (and the original creator is still at the helm).

Not sure what you want to see. I am not done yet, but I have a document about each character, enemy, plenty of images of both, I've even gone in the game myself to get high res images of certain things like pic related, which not even the wiki has. Forgive me for low res screenshot, the file is too big to upload otherwise.

Obviously. And it is a very deep game. But there are deeper games out there, and there are still faithful expansions to the universe that are canon.

I mean, do what you want, but the Drakengard/NieR universe is really fucking deep, too. And it's equally fucked up, if not more so.

I don't challenge that there are plenty of other games out there that are deep and wonderful. It's like a oneitis though- you don't really pick her, and there are plenty of other wonderful women out there, but she is your LOVE, your PASSION, your perfect little polished egg. I can't get enough, and I can't force this passion onto any other game.

James. Cliche I know, but it's true. If not him, then Angela, then after that Maria. James is most fascinating to me because you get to know him through his interactions with Laura and Maria, but also the enemy designs tell you A LOT about him, and you know, I really find him to be a sympathetic and interesting character.

I love them too. I find SH3 much scarier than SH2, but I still prefer 2 for the lore. That said I have a partial archive on SH3, too, which I plan to work on after I finish SH2. I love it almost as much.
>>27971091

I have only found 3, but they're always really good. I think a lot of SH anons on /v/ get very rigid and stuck in their accepted interpretations of lore and hate to hear anything outside of that, which has always been my experience. That said some threads are still good over there.

To a point, but you've spent more time analyzing it then they did both discussing what would make it into the game AND actually creating the game.

Again, it's your life, but know that each moment you've spent on this game (which is already thoroughly researched) is time you can't spend doing other things.

I hope for your sake it doesn't lead to regret later. After all, you're spending your youth. You can do all this stuff in 40 years. You won't be able to do everything you can do now 40 years from now.

Kek. I know you're being sarcastic but he's such a dumb fuck. The old VA's for SH2 are far, far superior.

I think Homecoming is one of the biggest pieces of dogshit ever released under the guise of being a survival horror game, and I think that Downpour is a 5/10 game with some interesting ideas, but huge plotholes. Also it has a cameo of the SH4 room which I love. The Surprise ending is great.

I think Shattered Memories is genuinely good, and I think SH Origins is decent at least. Not much to say or study about either though.

Don't know if this is a fun fact, but did you know that the boroughs have themes for the street names? Many of the streets in Broker are named after Indian tribes, in Bohan the streets are named after prisons (Sing Sing Ave, Alcatraz Ave, Guantanamo Ave), the streets in Algonquic are named after minerals (pyrite street, diamond street,). Just a neat little detail.

I always loved riding on the Plumbers Skyway in Alderney, comfy as fuck seeing the industrial parts then going to the suburban homes in Westdyke and Leftwood.

Eddie Dombrowski is probably my least favorite character because, to me, he's just pretty straightforward and not interesting. He came to Silent Hill after shooting and killing a dog, along with shooting the dog's owner, a football player, in the leg. He was bullied his whole life for being a fat slob, so severely that he got a persecution complex. Although he hints at it, he has never actually killed a human being (as confirmed on Ito's twitter). In Silent Hill, he continues to act like a fat, paranoid slob, ignore the well being of the innocent Laura by letting her run off, and trying to kill James. He's really a scumbag, although the bullying does make sense. He was inspired by the Columbine shooting, and his actual build is based off of Sato's friend.

His name is inspired by Eddie Murphy, as he was originally a very cheerful character. His last name comes from Louise Dombrowski, who is a character in Lynch's Twin Peaks. He is the first enemy in the series who is actually human. In the room where you first find him vomiting, you can actually see posters that foreshadow his issues with his appearance, and getting bullied by football players, I posted them here:>>27971005

No problem pham, and my sympathies that you had to play the PS3 version. That reminds me though, if you are interested in playing the amazing PC versions here are some download links, yes they are functional it is where I got my copies. They are impossibly expensive online.
SH1 NTSC DDL:
https://mega.nz/#!bVUCTJzD!PmnPw4S7fWGyvTjw9S0-RQdk7rRp2BQNuXJqRkZCZvk

SH2 DDL:
https://mega.nz/#!rFcj1SIJ!47JH9M4OrzmQKuaiJ6IqUgmgz_SVNtk4LIYNSa-D-_8

SH3 DDL:
https://mega.nz/#!2JNkgJ7b!nfPf5cIs6I5K-sdAs7RcnHvGA2hAvIGdpQuIoBhF3iE

SH4 DDL:
https://mega.nz/#!Us1XTaII!cglH0dZOaH5yQEm4cnEh3eyUz4bIf6rACQqcVzkb4Hc

And in case someone's once again new to this PC gaming stuff: Use a program like DaemonTools Lite to mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.
The "sh2proxy" fix works as a no-cd crack as well, and is included in the pack.

In case you experience issues saving the game / not being able to edit the disp.ini, make sure the files aren't set to "Read Only", and run the game as Administrator.
If SH2 gets stuck in a black screen upon launch, close it and re-start it again.

here's the recommended emulator settings for SH1. Works great on all other games too.

The plugins used are:
-Pete's OpenGL 1.78; (more options & better performance than 2.x version)
-Eternal's SPU Engine.

Alternatively just use a software renderer for very 1:1 PS1-like graphics, including 240p only.
...OR just buy the game from PSN Store for few bucks.

Man, I tried Silent Hill 3 and I hated that game. Unlike Silent Hill 2 it felt entirely disjointed, shit was happening for no reason. Like how as soon as you climb out the window of the bathroom at the beginning suddenly there are monsters. No build up, just suddenly nightmare shit again like in the dream and I always felt like I was just doing shit just because it's a game and not like there was much of a story there. I quit around the time you're wandering around in the subway tunnels and it's dark as fuck. It got very boring. Is Silent Hill 4 worth playing?

Did you play Silent Hill 1? SH3 is a bit confusing because it's a direct sequel to 1, and most of it's story is incomprehensible until you've already finished the game. On replay it makes a lot more sense, and actually has a wonderful story. I would place it just behind SH2 as my favorite. I would recommend SH4, but be warned it can be frustrating because the second half of the game is an escort mission where you are pursued the entire time. There are some odd design decisions, sound and visual wise, but I still really love the game. Worth it if you are interested in Silent Hill.
>>
>>27972183
I never played the first one. Silent Hill 2 was the only one I enjoyed from start to finish, though blundering around in that apartment to drop cans in the garbage did get tedious. I've played the hell out of Fatal Frame 1 and 2 though. The miasma ruined 3 for me and I can't play 4. Might eventually get an external HD to play 5 on Wii U, that's about all that paperweight is good for.

one of the best things in the game is how honest it is about james' sexual desires. while playing the game everyone should have realised that james is a nice guy that got into shit. his desire may not be as "pure" as white knights think they are but if you honest with your sexuallity james is one of the most relatable characters i know. if someone judges him for being sexually frustrated they maybe just can#t think of themseves in this situation but most likely thay are hypocrite assholes that think male sexuallity as a whole is evil.
