Did you know that during the development of the B-24, they used children as test subjects for ball turret operations? The majority of the times, the hydraulics would fail and the kids became trapped in the turret. Unable to get out, they were crushed as the plane landed (the ball turrent needs to be retracted before landing).

Obvious coverup of experimental aircraft. Still a well done one though. Distracted the civilians and press quite well. Obviously didn't fool the Soviets, but it wasn't meant to anyway. The Cold War hadn't really even started in 1947 and they would have thought it was an experimental weapon no matter what was said. That doesn't discount other UFO experiences though, although I have a lot of doubt about each of them.
