I worked deli once. Oh god I can say without a doubt one of the worst jobs I've ever had. I was happy when I changed jobs and worked cashier. FUCK THE DELI. Also everyone that works there are all 50 year old women who are cranky as hell and just unpleasant to be around. Never take one of these jobs. All i do is make coffee, take orders and use the til. Its pretty damn easy, the hours are good, the work isn't too hard or stressful now that I've mastered how to use the damn machine and my boss is already teasing me saying she wants to hook me up with a qt co-worker.
Life is pretty chill atm except there's rumors that the cafe's going to close down in the next couple months.

It gets to you eventually. It's like psychological torment. You aren't allowed to do fuck all. You can't work and mix in anything pleasurable, you just have to stand there, day after day interacting with people you don't care about and don't care about you.
But they hold the pretence up and try to bombard you with pointless shitty small talk. These regular people don't understand a damn thing about whatever you try to talk about so you clam up and pretend to smile and just let them rabbit on with the same old crap while pretending to card and throwing in generic statements to keep them happy.
But eventually you can't keep up the charade so you walk in, dead-eyed and automate the work. It gets you into trouble, but you don't care anymore. You're mentally unengaged and checked out. You know working hard makes no difference to not working hard. You don't even really care if you got fired. Because it would at least end the cycle of the same old boring shit. Day after day.

It really is.
By about 10:30am morning rush is over and customers and orders dry out for the day. Then work is super simple and relaxing, just talking and playing games with co-workers and waiting for evening cleanup and quitting time.
I've only been working for a few weeks now, but its doing wonders for my self confidence and social skills.
I'm learning and improving on talking with people, making conversations and just generally not being an autistic sperg like i used to be. I dare to say it but i think I'm actually making friends and might even have a chance at a girlfriend if i play my cards right.
Getting this job has changed my life for the better.

I work grocery and think its the perfect job for robots, my store is overrun with them. You couldn't pay me enough to be cashier though.
