In the modern day, the internet is now simply an extension of the real world. The main uses of the internet now are to augment reality. So Facebook/Twitter/Instagram make real life communication "easier", give it another layer of depth, etc.
What robots don't realise is that this transformation has fucked up real life too. In 2006, for instance, "normies" were people who went to parties and hung out with friends in person, rather than sitting inside on the internet. In 2016, "normies" are people who pretend to hang out with their friends, but are actually spending 90% of the time texting and taking fucking selfies.
The result is everything is now boring. The internet is inane and stupid, and now you can't even escape it in real life because of smartphones. Plus normies are increasingly giving up socialisation in favour of "Netflix and chill xxxDDD". So if you don't enjoy shitty "memes" and Facebook humour, you're literally screwed now. Even 4chan has given into it a little bit.
