People have warped views of the past because the overwhelming majority of history is written by people who were well off and had good lives. Because of this, people's idea of the past is rose tinted and they think it was a 'golden age' where everything was good and no one had a bad time, or at least had a better time than they do now.
Sure everyone knows about the Great Depression for example, but it's a broad kind of knowledge; we don't have very many personal accounts of the people it affected the most, just the view from people who had the time and financial support to document it as it happened.
I'm sure if we had something written by a poor or lower class guy in the 1920s he would be experiencing similar problems to a lot of people here. In all honestly he'd probably be facing a lot worse shit than robots as well; things like backbreaking labour, long hours, low pay/no minimum wage, high society women don't pay any attention to him, dies at age 50 etc. etc. etc.
