>never wash it more than 3 times a week assuming you're at college/uni/work and need to keep up appearances. if you can get away with it, go up to 4-5 days now and then
>when you apply shampoo and conditioner, use a bit less than you think so you don't get too much lather and leave it in your hair for a minute or two before you wash it out. be thorough when doing this
>don't shampoo your roots and don't condition the ends (this probably applies more to hair jaw length and beyond but whatever)
it's a bit of a pain in the ass but it seriously makes a difference. your hair will feel a lot softer and have a more natural, less crispy look to it.
