Eh I settle with it. I wanna eat whatever, and for some fucking reason I can never gain muscle or lose enough fat (to look good) from eating well.

What is this a you laugh you lose thread?
Pic related is an accurate depiction of me

Gotta make sure you're counting calories. It doesn't matter how clean you eat if you don't have a calorie deficit. It's also not a fast process even when you do start hitting a regular 10-20% deficit; give it a couple months.
>>
>>27757621
I will never ever let myself get that bad. Like literally how the hell...

>>
>>27757683
A lot of people won't be full all day long from that. What's more, you're getting shit amounts of essential micronutrients (vitamins, minerals, etc.) so even if you sustain a technjcally healthy weight that way, you're really not metabolically healthy.
>>
>>27757683
Greens keep you fuller longer. "empty calories" comes from foods that give you lots of calories yet keep you wanting more food later. Lighter colored greens are shit. Dark greens are where it's at.

You also have to find out what your daily caloric rate should be and eat at a deficit so you can lose weight.

Replace those snacks with celery, carrots, and cauliflower. I guarantee you you'll get full on fewer calories. That change alone will put you on the right track to start losing weight.

me

sucks because it's not like I don't exercise a lot, it's just that food is one of the only things that makes me happy because I'm /nofriends/ and never leave my house so I put on a lot of weight once I graduated and didn't have to leave my house anymore

I've been counting calories for the last month and a half or so and I've lost some weight, though.
>>
>>27757786
because you're not calorie counting, obviously. healthy-ish isn't enough.
>>
How do I know how much calories I need to eat to be at a calorie deficit?
>>

>eating healthy-ish
That really doesn't cut it. Try and drop carbs from your diet entirely, even if you do that w/o exercising you'll lose weight.

It's true the one problem is that it's less filling, so I do aim to cook most of the time because rice is more filling than french fries but officially I have no rule whatsoever on what I eat.

Yep i'm aware of this but one thing at a time, I think that people trying to eat less AND be healthy is why a lot of people give up.

My go-to bored food these days is bananas and almonds.

Now that I have to pay for my own food again I'm less enthusiastic about wasting it on junk. I usually only buy what I need and not much else.
>>
>>27757819
This. If you eat 5000 calories of all vegetables, and your TDEE is 3000 calories, you're still going to get fat. Calories-in, calories-out is the fundamental idea that ultimately determines how your weight loss or gain pans out.
>>
>>27757813

Fruits and nuts certainly aren't bad options, but they're more calorie-dense than veggies; the bananas especially have complex carbs that, while good for you, should only be had in moderation, otherwise they'll spike the fuck out of your insulin and cause fat storage.

The more you eat them the more you get used to the taste. Also, make some banging ass veg smoothies with fruit juice added to them. Recipies everywhere. This is what I'm gonna start doing now. Easier to eat veggies when you can just swallow them like juice.
>>
>>27757887

>>27757920
You need to figure out your TDEE, set an exact calorie deficit based on it (10-20% is optimal) and perhaps consider going low-carb (i.e. no rice and minimal fruits). If you don't know your exact numbers, you can't figure out where the problem is nearly as easily.

Are you for fucking real, mate?

Not even taking into account being busy as fuck, it's such a ridiculous concept. You're really expecting a person to check on a scale how many grams of each ingredient of each meal they're eating at any day and THEN investigate the macros and KJ on each of them and THEN keep track of each and every one until your daily quota's covered? Not even thinking of the meals that can't be controlled, those you don't know what they're made of. That stew from the college cafeteria? The time you had to eat at a restaurant? You're expecting someone to know from a look how many calories whatever you're eating has or carry around a little scale and then slowly measure every tiny itty bitty piece?

The concept is absolutely nonsensical. Counting calories is something I'd imagine Chris-chan doing.
>>
>>27758038
You can make it affordable if you eat meals that are a bit more on the boring side (lots of grilled chicken, broccoli, flax seed, non-fat Greek yogurt, etc.). Small price to pay for a better body imo. I feel your pain, though. I'm still struggling to lose my last bit of belly fat too. Been a years-long battle.
>>
>>27758051
No one said it was gonna be easy, m80. You either do it or you don't get results. There are also apps (My Fitness Pal, namely) that make it easier to keep track of.

>>
>>27758093
Trust me, I know how you feel. Binge eating is very easy to do, and the amount of calories you waste up can be immense. That's why it's vital to be very strict on your diet if you're trying to get substantial results.

Tried MFP, same problem. Discarding the minor bother of registering every tiny detail which is just a matter of getting used to it, it won't be an accurate measure.

How do I know the counts for their chicken soup is the same as my chicken soup? If their soup has rice or carrots it will be a different calorie count from mine which has peas and avocado and mushrooms.

The only way calorie counting would seem possible to me would be to prep every single meal in a tupperware down to the gram and that's just not viable.
>>
>>27758051
I think you're examples are a little unrealistic, but plenty of people do it. If I were to embark on this, I'd spend a day or an evening pre-cooking everything so I have it ready during the week. Make the same 3 meals every week. Change it up every once in a while. This is what I already do, but I'm not health conscious about yet.
>>
>>27758229
Why not? I'm a full-time med student and I do that every single day.

Engineering here. Barely getting by.

>>27758331
Because life is unexpected and can't be controlled down to a T. Closest thing to a consistent meal I get is 2 cans of tuna and a bunch of nuts twice per week. Probably gonna die of mercury poisoning some day but meh.

Apart from that, you never know what you'll have time to cook for breakfast or what mom made/got for dinner and then you're back at the problem of not knowing how much of what is in it.

Tell mom/whoever occasionally gets you food "Hey, I'm gonna go on a pretty strict diet. I'm gonna make my own meals. I'm gonna allow myself one, maybe two controlled cheat meals per week, so I'd appreciate it if you could be supportive of me while I do this." Easy as that. Then when you wanna make your meals, sacrifice 30 minutes to an hour of your night to prepare meals for the week. Long-term you'll actually find you save yourself a lot of time by doing this in addition to it being healthier.

Tried, reverts back to whatever's the family meal that night after a week or two. And when you come home from a long day in classes and training it's either mom's spaghetti and meatballs or no eating that day. "Sorry ma, I only eat grilled chicken breasts with broccoli now." One just can't do that. Even asking for my part of the food budget to cook didn't work because they'd keep buying for everyone and it's a damn shame to see food go to waste.

Can't wait till I get my own place to cook all my own meals and then maybe I'll see some change.

>Even asking for my part of the food budget to cook didn't work because they'd keep buying for everyone and it's a damn shame to see food go to waste.

this seems to be an inherent trait in moms. Mine would buy lots of food, more than we could eat even when I wasn't trying to eat less. Then we wouldn't finish leftovers and she'd complain about having to throw food away. But every single night she'd be in the kitchen making something new, even if there were two days of leftovers in the fridge. Telling her to buy less food produced either a "what the fuck are you even talking about" look, or a bunch of reasons why she couldn't ("I can't make only three of these because X only comes in packages of four", "I needed to buy all this Y to make a Z", etc) I asked her many times to stop making huge dinners every single night, and she flat-out refused.
