I drink a lot of scotch, myself. I like J&B for a modestly priced but still good one. If you want a slice of heaven without completely breaking the bank, have some Johnny Walker Blue. Their Black Label is good too, and a lot cheaper. I've also got some Cragganmore 12 on the way. Any of these I think you will find quite satisfying.
That's my niche though. What do you guys think of tequila or rum? I want to change things up a bit, and if you've got a recommendation for something good, let me know.

If you want something completely different try that tequila or some nice sweet spiced vodkas (Fish shot is great, at least). I also personally am a huge fan of anise liqueurs; that is sambuca, pastis, ouzo and absinthe.

well, i'm no expert but here's some starter tips
dr. pepper goes great with vodka and rum, it really helps hiding the taste of alcohol even when you mix 50/50 from personal experience.
energy drinks with the typical guarana taste (eg red bull) has the same effect on vodka at least.
gin and tonic obviously goes well with eachother, but it's decently bitter rather than sweet, lime/citrus mixers will work fine too.

Fuck me, that's on the no-fly list. Only times I've ever puked were due to vodka, and it happened pretty damn fast.
One time my friends and I (different city, I never see those guys anymore) went to the bar on an all-you-can-drink night, where you bought the cup. Twice the assholes ordered a Red Bull/vodka for me knowing how much I hated it, and before I could say anything my cup was full of that shit and I had to finish it off before getting something else.
I've never tried rum and Dr. Pepper, but Jack and Coke just tastes passable to me. Not disgusting but even when I mix it light it isn't half as good as a beer of equivalent ABV. I'd far rather just spend ten or fifteen bucks on a six-pack of heavy brews and get the same alcohol with a better taste.

I started when I was 23 (late bloomer, all my friends were drinking in their teens) and now two years later I'm still fine as long as I take care to drink at least a glass or two of water throughout the day and eat moderately healthy shit (homecooked meals from scratch, not fast food or microwave.) Light or very light red brews are my choice, since anything darker than that and I can't drink more than a few in an evening. Sierra Nevada has some nice heavy brews, some of their Ovila line this year is nice and heavy, and their Bigfoot is something like 10.2 and goes down pretty nice even if it's a bit bland-tasting. Innis & Gunn has some heavier brews in the 6.5-8% range that taste pretty good too, but are still light enough to drink fairly quickly all night long.
If I'm really going for bang-for-the-buck, Miller High Life is almost impossible to beat as far as weight of alcohol per dollar. It's only 4.7%, but it's barely more expensive than soda; a twelve-pack generally ranges from 7 to 9 burgerbucks at the local shitmart. It may not feel too great or taste remarkably flavorful, but it's a pretty damn cheap way to get shitfaced 7 nights a week.
