Anyone else unable to play video games anymore?

I'm 28 y/o KV neet, and I've had this problem for years, but it just gets worse and worse. The last year or so I'd force myself to play a game for about 30-45 mins until I absolutely couldn't stand it any longer, then stop and do nothing for a few hours, repeat.

Now I can't even do it at all. I just can't. Video games bring me no pleasure, they don't distract me, I have no idea what to do with my time other than sit here.

Anyone know how to fix this?
>>
Play better games, or find something else you like. its an expensive hobby anyway
>>
>>27728958

I've played hundreds of games new and old, and resources aren't an issue; I have access to anything. Anything I don't already own, doesn't interest me.

And it's actually one of the cheapest hobbies there is. I got hundreds of hours a piece from cheap ($20~) games like Terraria/Mount and blade, and over a thousand hours from Minecraft which I bought for $9.99 back in the day

A time machine. You grew up peter pan.
>>
did you try:
competitive FPS/RTS,
competitive obscure FPS/RTS,
asian visual novels,
playing old gba/DS/ps2/gamecube/n64, etc. games on an emulator?

1. drugs
2. play better games
3. virtual reality
4. ignore the 'peter pan' faggots (who loathe everything about waking life).
5. stop viewing it as a chore and something to do for unwinding or fun.
6. try postal 2 and wait for RWS to release a polished sequel that doesn't suck.

i can't play games either anymore, it's too boring

i spent most of my time drawing these days. shame i wasn't this productive when i was younger

World of Warcraft ruined my ability to play video games anymore. Anything that falls short of that first amazing experience in 2005 of playing WoW just feels noticeably "lesser" and I can't get into it.
>>
>>27729041

I play Planetside 2 sometimes but otherwise I don't really care for FPS/RTS... more of a grand strategy guy... and I've played all those to death (CK2, HoI2/3/DH, Eu3/4, Vicky II, etc)

Old console games sounds intriguing though. I've never played Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy Tactics or Fire Emblem, and I'd like to play Suikoden II again.

I just don't really know where to get started with that.
>>
>>27728941
Games have gotten really, really dumb and substance-less.

I'd recommend retro games.
>>
>>27729098

This is true. I had a fun time on Nost for a while before it wore off, but even that is gone now.

I feel you. I find myself enjoying games less and less. This past month i've downloaded like 4-5 games that are just "meh" to me, and i don't want to try more. They're all the same anyway, shoot shoot cutscene shoot.

Nothing is making me wanna stay up longer than i should, like i used to do.
>>
Do not play video games unless you want to. It's that simple. There's no point trying to make yourself like them. Now's the time you turn to hardcore drugs and die in a ditch.
>>
>>27728941
I quit playing video games and watching animu. Too many sjw fag got ruined the industry, and the industry comply with these fag got to look more progressive. That and the moohla. So no I won't buy your 60 dollar game, I'd rather spend it on a blow job from a prostitute.
>>
>>27728941
Sounds like it's time to end your neet status.
do something productive.
something that gets you out of your usual environment and routine.
>>
>>27728941
kv neet reporting, I still enjoy games, but only does that i'm familiar with, I just don't have the patience to learn how to play most games.

I found a new love with VR games, especially with vr (360) videos and porn.
>>
It happened to me at 24. Then I was like wait, you mean this whole time I was using video games to fill a void in my life? You mean all this time I should have been trying for jobs and relationships? FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
>>
Pretty much desu. Can only really play for 45mins or so every other day.
When I do play for an longer I usually listen to podcasts and just zone out.

>>
Same. The depression is too much now, I can't distract myself anymore, I want to fix my life, but I can't/
>>
>>27728941
I know what you mean. Just get a different hobby. I recently started playing guitar.
>>
>>27728941
Nah it happens. I didn't play any games for about 3 or 4 years. Occupied my time with exercise, drinking, learning, working, pretty much anything. Just wasn't interested in games. Then about two years ago decided to start playing again.
>>
Its getting older and new tech, too. Video games are supposed to be cutting edge in terms of entertainment. If youre playing American Marine 2016 after playing American Marine 2015 all year, theres no surprise. Its gotten exponentially harder and more expensive to produce these memorable experiences. Think about Ocarina of Time. That shit looked amazing at the time for most people, and it was a good enough story and adventure.

Just waiting for Half Life 3: reViV3D
>>
I'm in a similar situation. I find it hard to start a single player game. I have to psych myself up but once I'm playing I get into. Still I dont play marathons like I used to.

same age too
>>
>>27728941
Yeah it's called growing up.

I actually bought a few games recently like Witcher 3 and Fallout 4 and I played maybe 2 hours of each.

Have you tried roguelikes? Modern games are shallow "cinematic experiences" where if you sacrifice enough time you get the ending. With roguelikes you just gotta git gud.
>>
>>27732062

I've played selections of all the most obscure arcane shit imaginable, including roguelikes. The whole experience is usually a bit too on the rails for me.

Since I've made this thread though I started up emulated Chrono Trigger and Suikoden. Might grab some Fire Emblems and see if one of these will capture my attention.

C'mon there are hundreds of "w-why can't I find vidya fun anymore what happened" every month.
>>
>>27728941
Sometimes I don't play anything for months. I don't usually come across a game that I find interesting. When I find an interesting game, I play it for weeks non stop until I get tired of it. Recently I found Factorio and it's interesting enough to keep me occupied for hours.
>>
>>27728941
I know that feel. I'm 19 and this started for me almost a year ago, but I have deep depression and not much gives me pleasure mind you. I don't have this problem with some games I really love though, Dark Souls 2 for example but with others it's very hard for them to hold my attention unless I'm playing with someone else and having fun.

>Anyone know how to fix this?

Yeah, get a job and start a family you pathetic fucking loser. You're parents must be so ashamed that they have not a young adult, but a grown ass man sitting around their house leeching off them. Pathetic

From what? Thinking of how disgusting of a human being you are? LMFAO
>>

Escapism for normies. Most of what humans do is to never have to consider the fact that they are going to die and to avoid existential questions.

you're depressed, I'm not even kidding.
depression eats out all the pleasures that you have. I'm just waiting to get a gun honestly.

You need to start designing your own games. It's not as hard as you think, even for someone with no coding skills at all. For a while, I was a top administrator of what was the largest MUD on the Internet at the time, and I went from "10 PRINT HELLO WORLD; 20 GOTO 10; to some ugly but functional C++ just out of a need to find an output for my creativity. If you're enjoying something, learning isn't a chore, it's fun.

There are lots more options available for you these days than MUDs. You can use Game Maker (or one of its many clones), RPG Maker, or design maps, mods, and scripts for any number of pre-existing games with little or no programming experience. Designing your own roguelike can be as simple as downloading a basic engine and then plugging in your own values and descriptions.

Whatever you choose, you'll be improving your basic skillset at the same time you entertain yourself, while having something you can be proud of at the end.
>>
>>27732684
I just fucking kek when someone suggests something like that, how the fuck is that a solution lol
>>
I've reached this point too, OP.

I don't have the motivation to turn to anything productive though.
>>
>>27732700
I think this is a good idea.
I've tried before making my own flash-ies and it wasn't that bad, I made some nice platformers that I enjoyed, the only problem I faced was that I wanted more complicated things and the effort required weared me out so I went full circle to where I was before beginning.

The problem is that you're a NEET.
You truly can't enjoy your free time as one, because at the very least subconciously you know that you should be doing something useful and productive instead of indulging in leisure activities.
When I got a proper job after few year neetdom streak I started liking playing vidya on my free time just the same way as when I still was in school.
>>
>>27732760
Are you familiar with the Stanford marshmallow experiment, anon? The root of your problem may actually be a genetic predisposition to a cognitive distortion which makes you incapable of delaying gratification, even when it is hugely to your benefit to do so.
>>
That's a very cute Tinkerbell. Pretty soon I'll be playing the new Ratchet and Clank. Mostly though I stick to RPGs. The stories help motivate me to keep playing.

>>27731948
>Video games are supposed to be cutting edge in terms of entertainment
This. They're just getting prettier now, not much new in terms of gameplay.
Some games wanna make you feel like you're a badass who's having a blast, but really you're just pressing QTE's and watching explosions.

I read a little about it a while back, but I didn't know it could mean I'm fucked from birth.

Go back to video game consoles. Play some cod and gta online. Chat with people. Listen to some game ost and bgms are you will start liking games again. I had to do likw a year ago just to get back into playing on my wii u. I just trash talk kids on black ops 2 for the wii u and talk cool people and team up with them.
>>
>>27732914
Well, genetic predisposition is not a pair of handcuffs. It means you're working at a disadvantage, but there are plenty of people who live with much larger disadvantages and manage to overcome them. If you know where your weaknesses lie, then you can either do things which play to your strengths while avoiding those weak spots, or you can spend time and effort consciously compensating for it. If you know that you aren't able to delay gratification, don't put yourself in situations where you're surrounded by distrations.

You may benefit from stillness exercises. Stillness is what you do before you meditate. It's very simple to do. You just go into a room with no distractions -- no open windows, no noise, no watch, no phone, no TV -- and just sit and allow yourself to be bored. At first it's very, very difficult. The brain interprets boredom as pain, so much so that they use it as a torture in places like Guantanamo Bay. But as you practice, the length of time you can tolerate boredom begins increasing. In time, you stop being afraid of boredom. You'll be able to handle boring tasks for long periods of time without needing to take break or distract yourself. It may help to compensate for your natural difficulty in delaying gratification.

Can confirm gamedev is a more fulfilling and real alternative to vidya/tv shows. Sometimes i could get so into a project that i didn't want to play games that day.

I've been a drought in this past month or two though. Just can't find motivation to do anything besides consume media, and i enjoy everything less and less. I think any interest or hobby is not a real substitution to real life. Relationships, conversations, travel etc. You can't live your entire life alone in your home.
>>
It's cause you spend so much time here

I quit 4chan for a while and suddenly I could enjoy video games, I came back cause I'm an addicted faggot and now I can't enjoy them again
>>
>>27732760
Break it down into smaller pieces and work on those. It's a normal software practice. Don't listen to that guy who's projecting his self diagnosed laziness on you.

The secret to approaching complex tasks is to never overwhelm yourself.
>>
>>27728941

Find new hobbies. There isn't anything wrong with video games but they are repetitive as fuck, and haven't really changed much since their inception. If you've been gaming since you were a kid it's no surprise that you're getting bored of them like everyone else with half a brain.
>>
you have too much free time. get a fucking job. then you will cherish your video game time.
>>
I'd say it was because they made video games and gaming into a social media platform, that was a mistake. The bigger mistake was merging everything into feeling like one console now, the worst part is making consoles into something they are not by adding on shit like streaming content.
>>
>>27728941
I haven't played games in a few months now. I think last year December maybe.

I do want to play DaS3 though.
>>
>>27728941
I have trouble playing through single player campaigns. I always end up just playing more of stuff that I already have hundreds of hours in, like OSU, rocket league, warframe, and rivals of aether, and it feels like playing through a game takes conscious effort.
