It's a net gain for society. People who don't want kids shouldn't have them, it's that simple. It's not good for unwanted kids to be born all poor and neglected, it's a drain on resources. Women who have abortions and later go on to have kids into more stable situations.. That's beneficial for the kids, to be born later into a home with two parents and a decent income, rather than two teenagers employed part time at Walmart, who got married because their families pressured them into it, and then they fight all the time and get a divorce.

Should be illegal if it's a case of a woman wanting to escape consequences of her own actions. Though the pregnancy/kid shouldn't be treated as a "punishment" for her, that would be cruel to the kid who didn't ask her/his mom to be promiscuous.

I was married for quite sometime before we wanted kids. Should I have left my husband unsatisfied? Sure birth control is over 99% effective, but if you have millions of women on it, that's a large amount of pregnant women who were not engaging in 'risky' behaviors.
