If you're ugly and have a shit personality, people will always be mean to you
If you're ugly with a good personality, people that don't know you might be mean to you, but people that know you generally will like you but probably not associate with you as often
If you're good looking with a shit personality, some people will forgive/ignore that and like you anyway, most people will talk behind your back or confront you about being an asshole
If you're good looking with a good personality most people will like you, others will be jealous

Can't say I know the feeling, I'm decent looking and have a very friendly personality, on the inside though I basically just manipulate people into doing what I want and they justify it themselves because I'm nice enough to them
My manager gave me a hug on my last day on the job, everyone was sad to see me go, everyone gave me their number to stay in contact (I won't)
It felt nice at the time, but now its just empty, I realized I don't give a shit what they think of me because I have no further use for them, I know it sounds edgy but it's true, I take it for granted I'm sure, looks don't last forever
My only advice to you would be to be more friendly and outgoing instead of reserved and distant, that just makes people think less of you and assume the worst based on your appearance
