Because estrogen is better for you than testosterone. Women who only have daughters have a slightly longer life expectancy than women who only have sons. This is because women who have sons have more testosterone in them while pregnant.
Women also have more medical resources available for them and they are more likely to visit doctors when they aren't feeling well, so when a woman has a headache they find her brain tumor while it's still small and operable while a man would wait until the tumor is strangling his entire brain and has metastasized before visiting the doctor.

From what I've read, lifetimes used to be on average about equal.
Apparently improvements in medical care, especially around pregnancy and childbirth helped women survive this, which brought their average up.
In the meantime, we still have living among us the men and women from generations where there were major wars, so significant numbers of men were destroyed that way.
Male disposability and lack of status also mean men end up dying in the workplace and shortened life because of damage and stress done to them during work.
All the more reason to become NEET and do nothing for the roasties.

This is an extremely good question and it has real modern life answers. If you look around you will find that there's all sorts of advantages to having grandparents. Even things like having a supportive mom for the pregnant woman at birth improves a babys life greatly. Stepmoms are generally harmful though.
