Mental illness runs pretty bad on my mom's side, but I was in a car accident and got put in a coma for a month, so that really exasperated any genetic issues I already had.

About 6 months ago I had a cluster headache that lasted for a few hours so I tried to kill myself because it hurt so bad, but my dad came home from work as I was struggling to load his rifle and took me to the hospital.
Other than that it's basically just standard bipolar and schizo stuff.

Can you do a phenomenology of what it is like to have a cluster headace? How did they stop the pain? Do you think you are a tougher person because of your cluster headaces (free pain every now and then completely unescapable)?

That was the only time I've ever had one. They couldn't do anything to stop the pain, they just strapped me down to a bed and kept an eye on my vitals. It's all they could do.
It's a very unique sort of pain, kind of hard to describe. Sort of similar to a brain freeze at its core, but there is also an extreme burning sensation. That's where the majority of the pain comes from. There's this constant dulling pain on what feels like the outside of your brain, with an extremely intense burning feeling in the center, as if someone was branding you.
Now take what you imagine that you feel like and times it by a thousand.

Must have been about and hour and a half before my dad found me, and another 3 hours in the hospital. Cluster headaches are already a pretty unexplored part of medicine, and they said mine was even more unusual because of my TBI. For example, usually the pain is centered around 1 side of the head, but for me it was the whole thing. They also suspected the pain was more intense than usual for me.
In the hospital, time kind of slowed down. Or rather, I had no sense of it. I couldn't even really process anything besides my immediate surroundings. It was pretty surreal, my entire world was just centered around this single feeling of pain, and it felt like nothing else existed. Lost my voice about an hour into to it, which is when they started giving me oxygen.

Yeah. In retrospect, I don't know why they just didn't put me under. Never asked, but there must have been a damn good reason.
When it started to feel "better," it basically just slowed down until it felt like a really bad migraine. Eventually that faded later that night.
