I tried to make this hexel gondola and failed miserably in the face department. How do I fix him? He looks like the most miserable, saddest gondola ever created.

Bumping is a mistake. If we let Gondola go mainstream via a Reddit lurker bitch or other means we risk losing it like we did pepe.. Oh well but the best course of action would be to not bother.

You fucked up because the face and the body are following two different style rules. I looked up pics of Gondolas and i saw the following:
All have black outlines
eyes have no pupils or light reflection
there is no color gradients on the body.
Do you see now? The face is freehand drawn and has outlines while the rest of the body does not. The styles don't match.
Also the whiskers are drooping downwards. That is a pretty universal sign of sadness in facial expression/body language.
I spent far longer than warranted in Illustrator and came up with pic related. That is the style you're going for. Remake the face using straight lines and no gradients and then add a black outline to all the edges. Details are up to you if you want the eyes to be squares or diamonds and have the light reflection. You might be able to get away with circles like i have here if you feel it looks friendlier, but otherwise change them with squares/rectangles/diamonds.
Look up a mobile game called "Crossy Road". Use it as inspiration. Hope this helps fellow robot.
