So, can someone explain properly exactly what the hell Vaporwave is? It just seems to be a thing that retarded drug users listen to.
>>
>>27673328
It's the yuppies go to music while doing drugs.
>>
>>27673328
I don't like Vaporwave but to me it seems like Late 80's/Early 90's music you would hear while shopping for a vase or something
>>
I like it because it's nostalgic. Whenever you see the 90s internet look to it, or hear some old sound in the song, you get whisked back to being a kid playing around on the computer, playing things like the first Petz game or seeing GeoCities sites.
>>
>>27673328

hahaha you just ousted yourself as a literal moron

OP asked a basic question.

i think it's mostly 80s music edited to slow speed by people who were born in the 90s and never really listened to the originals.

Some combination of 80's music with elevator music and a hint of avant-garde, resulting in a pile of colored shit. Basically, painted 80's music that should have never existed.

Aesthetic > the music. It's just a meme music genre like sea punk, ocean grunge, cloud rap, etc. Just avoid it because it really only offers one or two food albums out of 1000s.

if i remember correctly, your pic related does a pretty good job explaining

its origins are ironic. it was an a e s t h e t i c that ironically glorified the rotten fruits of capitalism that we now know as 80s and 90s elevator music and prewindows xp. it elevated capitalism to culture. it was nin and rage against the machine for the irony-laden early 2010s.

but then something strange happened: we entered the post-ironic age. dfw worshipers took over college campuses. sjw beliefs were nationally disseminated. resigning to capitalism under the guise of compromise became hip.

and in this post-ironic age, v a p o r w a v e became a sincere if confused a e s t h e t i c. we are now stuck in an age where capitalism truly is a culture. our childhood does not consist of memories of our families, it consists of memories of shitty windows games and graphics. our ennui and melancholy is no longer evoked by a quietly babbling brook, but by dolphin olympics and old vr

may death come swiftly to us all
>>
>>27673328
it's just another genre of "broken music" like PC Music or some New Wave or some Tim Kinsella associated material

broken like a good adult swim show or custom frog
>>
Why did vaporwave even come back?

It was a shitty meme back in like 2011-2012 and now it's back.

I just like listening to it. I don't really understand the culture around it, what they mean with "aesthetics" etc, but it sounds good and relaxes me.

Something so comfy about that magenta sunset on a warm quiet night in Miami feel, ya know?
Like life is just simpler.
>>
It's just adolescents wanting to be avant-garde but merely repeating the same "le irony xDD" things that were already being done in mainstream culture through the 80s and 90s.
>>
>>27674797
Same here. Listening to the Miami Virtual album right now. It's the perfect music for when you don't want silence but also don't really want any "real" music (I usually listen to metal).

Especially comfy when it's getting dark and rainy and you sit there with a beer working on some stuff (or shitposting).
>>

I create the drugs in my brain while listening to this song.

>>
>>27673609
That album is too ambient for me. It makes for very comfy background music though, and it gives me more of a cyberpunk feel than any 80s-90s hypernostalgia. However, it's not something I can actively listen to.

This guy gets it.

big vapor.wav fan here, I once described it to a friend like this:

"you know how the last stage of grief is acceptance? Vaporwave is that, for neo-liberal capitalism. it's all about ironically embracing how we are utterly controlled by corporate entities and there is nothing left to do about it."

and no, I actually smoked while listening to it once and it was awful. Vaporwave is best perused while sober.

people claim it's just a meme because the circlejerk culture surrounding it has gotten out of hand. It's dissapointing

It's pretentious, talentless nonsense made by hacks.

I know because I made a vaporwave EP myself in less than 4 hours, with no knowledge of what to do. I just downloaded audacity and figured it out as I went, editing stock music and old 80's songs. I posted it on reddit and it was very well received. One person analysed a lot, and put more thought into commenting on it then I put into making it.

Is it enjoyable, and does it sound good are the ultimate questions though. I would say for the most part yes. I like futurefunk more than vaporwave, but vaporwave is still fun to listen to. But just like noise music, anyone can make vaporwave. So it is art, but devoid of talent.

You can spot the idiot hipster that's been tricked by vaporwave artists easily. They're the ones that try to elaborate on what it means, and what it is, when it actually means nothing and is nothing but recycled digital garbage.

Pic related, it's a blank canvas at an art gallery. This phenomena of low quality art being praised is present in every medium.
>>
>>27677474
Love vaporwave. Absolutely hate metal.

It's a drastically different aesthetic.
>>
I like the stuff that's made from scratch and sounds like 90s nostalgia but all the faggots taking old songs and slowing them down then calling it vaporwave can fuck off.
>>
>>27677564
Personally I find it more similar to what like Warp or Touch where doing in the 90s.

I could even see shoegaze and krautrock influences.

Vaporwave is internet egos trying to apply some sort of aesthetic to a scene they ripped off and are trying to promote as their original sound. It's about making a name for yourself off the work and originality of others while maintaining a cool kids club to get vapid 16 year old twitter users on your dick.

Just listen to actual 80's Japanese funk instead.

>>
It's basically like chopped & skrewed 80s funk/pop music thats accompanied by its signature aesthic to help give the music an identity.

All the pseudo-intelectual phliosophy people claim vaporwave represents is just garbage and y'all took the bait. It's mostly the fans that associate all these convoluted ideas with the music. No one's sitting in their room slowing down Michael Jackson tracks thinking "ya, fuck capitalism".

None of the vaporwave I listen to is very sample dependent.

It sounds more like the spirtual descendent of people like Terry Riley or bands like Flying Saucer Attack to me.

This. Vaporwave is a gateway to the superior future funk.

Old r&b and funk samples fused with electronic music paired with 80s imagery. It's a satisfying aesthetic and my favorite genre right now.

I actually enjoyed that childhood and I don't appreciate having hipster drugged out faggots sneer at it or lather dickless irony over it.

Thanks for infecting those memories forever though.
