>he didnt give you a "B" or better if you pass edthe AP exam like most teachers did at my high school
>got a pass/3 on the AP exam and all I did was read a test prep book a week before the exam.
>I lucked out, because there was a more ecology questions than usual and the test prep book covered a shit load of ecology stuff even though my teacher hardly discussed the topic at all.
>there were probably a bunch of kids in my class that didnt pass the exam because there was so many ecology questions on that specific exam.
>called a girl a bitch in class and my only "punishment" was sitting outside the rest of the class.
>think he told me to go see a psychologist or a counselor or something. He knew the girl was a bitch, but he said something like my response to her acting out was inappropriate. "YOu should know by now we just ignore Amanda"

I loved that show in high school. If only I knew I'd end up a 26-year-old virgin that'd never even get to smell a fucking pussy in his entire life.

Better that than that asshole substitute teacher that becomes power hungry at the slightest gift of authority and sends you out in the hall for asking for a pencil politely because "No talking"

that happened to me. That sub was an ass. That entire school had the worst subs I have ever seen

Our AP Bio teacher wrote a song about us, we all pretty much loved him. One day, he accidentally wrote "orgasm" on the board instead of "organism".

Man I fucking hate telling other people what to do and then arguing with them or fighting with them. I'm a huge coward and hate confrontation, even with kids. I don't want to look like some weak pussy, but it just doesn't seem worth sending some kid to the office or making a scene to humiliate them for misbehaving or whatever every time they're rude or defiant; I'm not teaching them shit in the first place, and kids who want to learn are going to learn anyway.

But sometimes, their defiance and rambunctiousness fucking hurts my feelings a bit and all I do is laugh it off or ignore it instead of actually punishing them or establishing order and authority, and I know it's just because I'm a pathetic beta. At least the kids don't seem to hate me, but they don't think of me as an authority figure. I feel like the most inept warden at a mini prison whenever I work.

This is such a horrible fucking job for me. Every job is such a horrible job for me. I think the NEET life is choosing me again.

My mom is an ed tech.

I'd rather be a homeless piece of shit than deal with some of the kids she's dealt with. Like, what the fuck?

Children like that just clog up schools, waste resources, and fuck everything up.

I loved my job. I only quit because of my divorce and moving to a different state.

Now I climb poles for a living.

I'm going back to SPED, just finishing up my degree.

I had an awsome English teacher who later turned out to be a robot/functional robot and a dick.

He was really good, took us out on trips to civil war battlefields, did Shakespeare and was for the most part chill to talk with about nearly everything related to history and classical litature also ran Warhammer 40k and DnD games on Sunday. Had every army in the game 5000pts every day.
Except he took his retarded rightwing poltical opinions to classroom and worse bitched about how he couldnt find/keep a woman (despite the fact this guy was a 8/10 look wise his personality was shitty).
Politics aside I wouldn't have given a shit but he took personal offense with me when I didnt agree with him and even went so far as to not give me recomendation letters when I asked for them like three years after I graduated HS and havin As in his class.
>>
>>27663120
Had a black sub in 5th grade. He was super religious and carried around this laminated sheet with a list of "virtues." He subbed quite often so everyone asked him almost every class about it and he'd spend like 25 minutes in autismal state preaching about how you should do good. It was great.

One time I took a kid to the bathroom in the elementary program. He was being particularly difficult.

Anyway, he reaches into his diaper, gets a handful of shit.

Then he licks it.

Then spits it right into my face.

I proceed to dry-heave, tears streaming down my face as I gag uncontrollably.
>>
>>27663791
I had a teacher in fourth grade who was the biggest most authoritarian asshole in the world.

First day of class he said "This class has no 'classroom rules' we have 'The life skills' (patience, perseverance, etc) and anytime he caught you looking around the room he'd stop the entire class to chew you out. He had the shortest temper in the world and got pissed off over the most minor things. One time I lied about not writing in my agenda book and he took away recess from me for like an entire week.

Even the normie appearing ones are heavily autistic, there's no mild form m8.

Why teach if you hate kids?

My suggestion is channel that hatred into having a firm grip on it and you could be the hardass teacher. It's pretty important to say what you expect of the kids when you first walk in too.
>>

>would constantly drop penciils near girls wearing skirts
What this fuck is up with this fucking meme?

I've heard this complaint about like 5 teachers since I was a little kid. Everytime girls don't like a teacher it's "I heard he drops pencils so he can look up girls' skirts."

Substitute teaching is a far cry from real teaching. I did it because a nearby district was desperate for subs, and as I mentioned, because I thought it'd look more professional than "I did retail for a billion years and before that I made french fries and hotdogs".

Your suggestion isn't terrible, though, in that it could be useful in developing some assertiveness for later, but fuck kids, this is not something I'm going to do for any serious length of time.

I had a substitute teacher teach us Spanish for some class fun thing like once a week in 1rst grade and barely, barely remembered the experience.

11th grade the same teacher subs my English class by coincidence. She remembered my first AND last name without looking, exactly where and how she had taught me Spanish 10 years before. I was amazed. Apparently she has incredible memory and basically never forgets anyone she's ever worked with.

Yeah well in America anything beneath the level of a professor is regarded as a failure and is paid relatively poorly compared to other professional jobs.

Teachers are basically just considered those that cannot and ridiculed by Americans. It doesn't help that our public education is fucking trash and just fuels the problem cyclically.

Holy fuck, this reminds me (not that anon, though). One year, our regular Spanish teacher was on maternity leave, so there was a long-term substitute.

America is dead senpai, no use applying shock to an old carcass. The entire culture here related to schooling and learning is infected with the notions of anti-intellectualism and rigid, flawed industrial utilitarianism. It's the core problem of American culture generally, as far as I see it.

I need your help
I want to be a teacher. I know that might sound silly to some of you, but know I am a very passionless and talentless and unmotivated person and this is the one thing that I can think of that actually sounds like something I want to do.

Ideally, I'd like to teach History, because I like history. But the way my school works (currently at a community college but will transfer to another in a few years) I take courses dependent on what I want to teach and then take education courses at the 4-year school.

So its like dual majoring in one subject AND education.

But like I said, Im a passion-less loser. I don't know what I want to do.
I know I said I want to teach history but I also would like to major in something that has good job prospects OUTSIDE of teaching. And my advisor said that as a male, I'd be a shoe in for a teaching position in math or science. Is this true?

Anyway, I don't know what to do. Please help me. I need to make a decision SOON. I can't stand telling people that I am an undeclared major. My parents are starting to crack down hard, too. Please help.

Ideally, if you want to get hired quickly you'd major in something like physics and get into an upperclass school. There you'll have kids that want to learn but you'll be watched all the fucking time.

If you really want to do history, you might have to deal with working in inner city schools for a while since they aren't at such high demand.

It really comes down to if you want suffer for a while and do something you enjoy or do something you hate and always have jobs(assuming you don't molest kids)

I'm only a college student. But let me put it this way from what I remember of high school.

I had a teacher who was 23, fresh out of college, studied some math and education, fairly straight forward. She looked out age. That's probably not so bad. Math is fairly easy to teach really.

Then I had teachers who had earned multiple masters degrees in their subjects, written his own math textbooks and sold them to universities, became a multi-millionaire who drove jaguars, lambos, a mansion, and had a yacht by suing people for illegally using his textbooks, and donated 100% of his salary to charity and literally to pay for some of his poorest students' lunches. Just a public high school. He basically reformed the entire math department telling all the other teachers to step it up and be tough and writing all their tests. And his class was hard as fuck. He taught everything from Pre-calc to calc to multi-variable calc for those who wanted it.

The teachers who were friends with him were excellent as well and cared so goddamn much about teaching it was inspiring. One of them also had a PhD in biology too but quit his research job to teach us.

Better than any professors I've ever had.
So that's the difference I think.
>>
>>27664808
It all depends on what country that your in but I would say that you should go for it if you like kids and think you could bring some meaning into their life. I didn't know I would be a teacher but I spent a year teaching in China and it was the most rewarding experience of my life I went into the educational field.

Male teachers are needed in the teaching profession because it's a predominantly female field. My only warning is to be careful around the kids and never to be alone with one in a room.

Thats really cool and all. I mean I like kids and I feel like they'd like me, too, but my only issue is getting to that point.

Im really bad at math and honestly it scares me. Right now I was thinking of doing bio (like for what my advisor said about math and science) but I have to take calc and organic chem and man, I just don't think I can do it.

Maybe I'm just being a pussy? I don't know.
>>
>>27665193
You're better off than 99% of teachers out there right now that are shit at math and are just one lesson ahead of the kids that they're teaching because they're so bad at it. Trust me, you'd be fine.
>>
>>27665117
I was told this by a male teacher i work with when i first started. "always have 3 or more kids with you or another adult" he said he has seen his fair share fired for from taking a kid to the bathroom and using it as well to helping kids clean them selfs after they had an accident.
>>
>>27664912
Working with kids can be very rewarding because they do things like this. Even if you ream them out when they're misbehaving they forget about it and can act very sweet afterwards, because you're an authority figure to them.
>>
>>27665222
I'm sure I could teach it fine if I had too but its about me taking the courses that Im actually worried about. Maybe it would be worth it? I don't know.
>>
>>27664351
hahahaha wow
>>
>>27665234
Exactly. People are very suspicious of male teachers being pedos so you have to be very, very careful about it all. I would recommend never following a kid into the bathroom, and never being alone with one ever. If they make up a story you're screwed.
>>
>>27665178
I went back during college since I majored in math to talk to him. He looked at my college work and said I was going too fast and he was right. The reason he didn't teach college anymore (he used to) was because he said he didn't want to do research, just wanted to teach.

But his class was proof-based and HARD, but everyone loved it.

Anyway the students he taught always reported that because of him, the first 2 years of college were really easy. He did a lot more good teaching high schoolers than he would have as a college professor.

Primary school in my country are grades 1-6 which is 6/7 - 12-13 yo. Also I've been doing simple excercises with them, like drawing flower or car using layers, transparency and coloring old pictures using layers, layer modes/transparency, and selection tools. You know, stuff you can do in 1-5 minutes, which takes them 30-60 minutes.

6 grades actually aren't doing that bad, but 5 graders need lot of help. 4 graders barely can do anything, even with help, so we're doing other stuff with them like e-mails, power point presentations, word, or discussions/lectures about how is PC built.

They aren't geniuses. Only like few are actually really good because their parents either encourage them or pressure them and thay already worked with some of the software, or they're actually talented. For example one 6-grader already knows basics of programming in Python and one girl worked in Sai or however this graphics software was called.

Also maybe they sound like geniuses to you because there're no nigs in my country to drag down the whole class and our schools aren't completely fucked yet and actually teach something. I heard they want to fuck it up though by, for example, spending one lesson for each digit insetad of learning how to count to 10 with fingers on one lesson, like we're doing now.

Anyway, gotta get at least 2 hours of sleep before uni and then school.

I love working with kids, it was the most rewarding experience I ever had in my life. You have the chance to really help kids out and make an impact for their whole lives and stop bullying before it becomes a huuuuuge problem and could potentially save a life.

Teaching the same stuff in the same way after you're in the same grade for X amount of years means it's less difficult than when you're starting out and you can change things up depending on the class.

It's pretty awesome.

Well, then I was a kid I also didn't have programming until HS. The closest was fucking writing simple webpages in html in gymnasium. But now, after almost 20 years, I see gov is trying to introduce programming as early as possible. In primary school it's mainly LOGO, Baltie and Scratch. Scratch looks easier and kinda more intuitive, but Baltie seems to give pretty high possibilities. You can look it up.

I was starting programming in Pascal, then moved to C++, C and played a bit with adobe flash on computer animation/games classes so the difference is quite big.

Now I'm really fucking off to bed.

I can't imagine teaching in elementary and HS.

Public school has convinced me that is simply a giant daycare under the guise of preparing kids for college (something I might add, does extremely poorly at). Putting overworked and mostly ill informed parents at ease to what our education system is about.
It all seems to be shuffling kids and keeping up with standardized testing which basically forces you to teach test and/or fine ways to get poor students kicked out so you can keep your metrics up.
On top of that all it takes is some spoiled stacy or one porn popular to show up on the projector to not only ruin your career but your life by being labeled a sex ofender.

Why even have teachers with education degrees, to me wouldn't someone who is genuinely intrested in a particular subject and works or worked in a related field be better suited?
>>
>>27665836

Colleges, atleast in my states (NJ), require you to major in the subject you want to teach as well as education

>>
>>27665614

Bullying is way less of a problem now than it used to be. There's hardly any in-person physical bullying, now it's almost all like sending messages on social media or shunning.

>>27665836
>wouldn't someone who is genuinely intrested in a particular subject and works or worked in a related field be better suited?

Yes. I teach 5th grade math, and most of the math teachers barely know more than about a 7th or 8th grade level understanding other than being really fluent with basic calculations--they are not sound conceptually. The ones who are solid have either taught themselves over the years or came from a math/engineering background. I did CompSci and started dual majoring with electrical engineering and I constantly read articles and books on math teaching methods so I know my shit backwards and forwards.

>hurr 5th grade math is just times tables

Not anymore. Math is actually way too hard and covers too much material for average kids--there's really no need for random 10 year olds who aren't gifted to be trying to abstract away problem situations into 2-variable equations and solving them, but that's an example of a concept that literally every 5th grader is expected to master. Meanwhile I didn't learn that shit until algebra I in my accelerated 7th grade math class.

>Latest videos still show a bunch of niggers and wiggers in fights.

>>27665876
Because a lot of my "greatest" college professors, ones who have plenty of papers and excellent research, are absolute shit. They don't explain well, are unintelligible, or (the worst kind) put you down for trying to succeed in their classes instead of helping you up.

Literally had "astounding researchers" tell me shit like "You wanna tell me you're interested in 'math topic'? You don't even know anything about it. I can not understand why you would say that if you don't even know the first thing about it. For example, do you know how to 'math concept'? This is basic and you should be able to do that. The way you think about math is extremely worrisome. I'm not sure it can really be taught either, it's just the way you approach math that worries me."
Thanks professor, I'm like a sophomore undergraduate but thanks for letting me know I will never be at your level.

He did this literally every time I spoke with him and I found out he was saying the same shit to all the other students too. Pulled an A out of his class and got the fuck out of there.

Not formally a teacher, but I used to volunteer at an outdoor skating rink every year, shovelling and watering the ice, keeping an eye on the changing shack, and so on. I did it because it gave me an opportunity to talk to the kids when they came into the shack to change, who appreciated being talked to as mature equals. They would sometimes come and just sit in the shack all evening as I taught them about the politics of anarchism.

One day I had a guy come storming up to me and, if I hadn't been 6' 5", I think he'd have taken a poke at me. He demanded to know, "Did you tell my kid not to listen to me?"

Turns out, he had ordered his 11 year old son to clean his room and the kid had said, "I don't have to listen to you, the guy at the shack says I'm an anarchist."

Feels good, man.

I kind of want to teach history at the middle/high school level. My mom is a teacher, I have two uncles who are teachers, my sister is a special ed teacher and my grandfather was a principal. My dad is getting his degree to become a teacher. In short, I've been around this kind of stuff a lot.

It seems like something I might like. Teaching kids, maybe helping them with life and growing up, a set work schedule and a lot of time off. But I'm also not a very good public speaker because I get extremely nervous and can never just be comfortable in front of an audience, so I feel like I wouldn't be able to get over it. Any teachers that used to have this problem?

Also, anyone here teach at the secondary level before? Pros/cons?
