I don't think you do. My philosophy has developed into a sort of cognitive dissonance where I approach every possible relationship as "the one" but also prepare myself for things to not work out. When you do find her, I don't think it'll be apparent. What I expect is that things will be comfortable, and then one date turns into two, and then you're officially a couple, and somewhere down the line it dawns on you that maybe you could be with this person forever and not hate yourself.
