You just have to practice. Once you get good at it and you can read at a faster pace, you get your information faster and it will be less boring. It helps to set yourself into a pedantic mood if you can. Also keep a phone on handy so you can look up words in the dictionary while reading.
Also, don't read boring books when you are practicing. Read some fiction, I like the Dune series. That will expand your vocabulary too.
Once you get good you can start to read philosophy and psychology which I think are really helpful in particular if you are concerned with self-actualization.
