Been playing Stardew Valley recently but sort of lost interest after a few days and a few dozen hours. They are mainstream and they are mostly garbage. The only decent bands you listed were Alice in Chains and early Marilyn Manson. Currently I listen to a lot of Rap, for example, Kendrick Lamar, School Boy Q, Run the Jewels, Jedi Mind Tricks, Wu Tang Clang. But I'm pretty open minded with music, I enjoy electronic-ambient, Classic Rock, Whatever the hell Elton John is and the like. The reason I chose Pink Floyd's "The Wall" is because I feel I can relate fairly well with the story they portray in this album along with The Dark Side of the Moon. But this album is just so great, with taking about Syd Barrett's life, even though told from Water's POV, and what he went through/his final thoughts before he stopped talking with the band and pretty much the rest of the outside world.

A majority means more than 50%; do you really think more than half of the public listens to, say, Adele after accounting for people that don't listen to music, people that listen to pop music from their generation, people that listen to music that isn't pop, people that listen to pop music but don't like Adele, and so on? I think you're confusing popularity with majority. If 20% of the population listens to Adele while only 1% of the population listens to Metallica, then Adele is extremely popular relatively speaking, but she still is not listened to by a majority of people.
And now I've come back to the original point (that I didn't even make by the way), which is that Metallica, CCR, Def Leppard, and Sabbath are mainstream. Each of these bands was incredibly popular (relatively speaking) in their time; each of these bands released a platinum album, and would probably be recognized by most adults. To say that Adele is the most popular right now clearly makes sense; the young people that actively listen to Adele would know who she is, as well as the older people that have certainly heard her mentioned in the news, online, on the radio, etc. These young people are now ignorant of bands like Metallica, but as they get older, stuff like Adele will become Metallica. The younger people listening to SpaceBop420 will be ignorant of Adele, while the older people will know Adele and SpaceBop420. Do you understand the point I'm trying to make?
