Why does it feel like everything went downhill after 2007?
>>
Because it did. Internet became normalfag accepted. My one refuge had to be taken away.
>>
>>27605387
Because Facebook became popular around 2008-2009 and the internet wa taken over by normies.

Because cats can be scary.
>>
Because you're getting old, dumbfuck.

Everything was better when you were a kid and all the new stuff is bad.
>>
>>27605984
No. I was a kid in the 90s and know how shitty life was then compared to the golden Internet era.
>>
>>27605387
because economy went downhill
also video games, internet and "nerd culture" in general became popular
>>
partly because call of duty became mainstream. which guaranteed first person shooters would no longer be about cool worlds and stories.

it really went downhill 2011-2012 or whenever the golden age of waifuism died.
>>
>>27605387
Runescape desu
>>
That's when the internet got popular
>>
How many people here were born in/around 1997?

Born in 1995 here
>>
1995-2007 was the golden age of video gaming (PC and console alike), internet freedom and anonymity, interesting content, technologies that were actually innovative, computer software, etc.

Then something happened. That being the emergence of smartphones and the popularity of Facebook. Although the internet began to decline in general quality in the Myspace era, Facebook plus the ability to access it at all times has given birth to the precedent of using your real name online and the internet as a means of instant gratification, gossip-spreading and media consumption. At this point, the internet became less about discussion and ideas and more about narcissism, attention whoring, etc. With that, came the inevitable rise of the SJW, as social media allowed people to remain in their own naive bubble where their opinions were only repeated back to them by their circles of friends, all differing views filtered out.
>>
>>27606202
>tfw too blissfully ignorant in 2007
It was nice, not feeling empty all the time
>>
Because smartphones allowed people to use the internet in short, bite sized, bursts.

Companies took advantage of it, and now society demands brisk service and interaction.
Look at snapchat, twitter, Tinder, and uber. All nothing new, just the social interaction is cut to a bare minimum.

Social Media is poison and this includes r9k

hmmmm i wonder
>>

The internet became normalfag accepted at the end of the 90s. The dot com bubble burst in like 2000. I have no idea how you people think that any internet past 2000 is your secret little club.
>>
it wasnt't aht the internet went mainstream, but the internet started to get monetized
youtube started to be big money instead of a place for silly videos
facebook started to get big and monetized after 2007-2008
basically companies started carving up sections of the internet after 2007-2008 and buying up anything that was decently popular, like a second dot com bubble
>>
Things got a lot better after '07 IMHO
>>
>>27605387
It did. But it started a lot longer ago than that.

Mr. Clueless, go look at some statistics on internet usage over the years.
>>
>>27605387
Remember the times when "gaming content" was not catered to (figuratively or literally) FarmVille players?
>>
i wonder if i will ever live something like that again

when do you think things will become good again?
>>
Let me tell you what happened. It had all started when people had flooded to 4chan after hearing all about the raid stories and the anonymous part of it. Soon 4chan became overrun with newfags and while /b/ was going to shit, /r9k/ was slowly emerging to the surface. But soon, /r9k/ was later used to post your shitty lives and /b/ was already being used for porn and other crap. Nowadays, its all about the media, famous people, and how big your dick is.
>>
>>27605387
I swear there was a drastic change in society, economy and culture in 2007 and 2012
I just felt that those were the times that had an impact on almost everything, something is wrong and becoming more and more unstable each year but I have no idea what
anybody else have that feeling?
>>
>>27610250
no it sounds like you're retarded.
my salary was getting a high school education in 2007. now i make 80k and travel the world and have a good time. fuck 2007.
>>
It's really everything. Kids are getting new styles and more sluts are arising in schools, The media is basically big brother now controlling all of us, and we have to deal with crazy polititians while other countries laugh at us.
>>
>>27607168
This normie use certainly increased and the mobile phones made the web accessible to the most hardcore of plebs but the web was dead long before 2007.
>>27609493
You don't really know how to interpret the statistics and just continue to regurgitate this retarded meme. You're probably underage tbqh
>>
2011 was when it went to shit for me

Every time this is posted it is always 2006-2010 people think the world changed and went to shit. Just remember your age at that time and you will find your answer. It is called growing up and realizing life sucks ass.
>>
>>27605387
It didn't. Life after 2007 is just incredibly ironic and post-modern.

It's because most of you are 18-21 and 2006-2008 is about when your puberty started.
