I was sitting at my desk at work and all of the sudden I felt like my back was spasming. It got a little better but it felt like I tore my shoulder muscle or something. My back was fucking killing me but I didn't think it was serious enough to leave work. I could breathe fairly easily but I had a little trouble when i breathed in deeply, certainly I didn't think it was anything to do with my lungs.
That night I got home, my back was still in agony and the pain was spreading beyond my shoulder blade area. I took my dog for a walk and I could only make it about a block before I had to sit on the curb with a sharp pain in my side and at that point I knew I had to go to the ER. I took my dog home, got in the car, drove myself and thought I tore a muscle in my back or something. The doctor listened to my breath with a stethoscope, couldn't find anything and decided to take an X-Ray just to be safe before discharging me. Turns out my lung collapsed that morning so they scheduled emergency surgery that night to reinflate the lung. I was conscious the entire time, they stuck a needle in my side and threaded a tube up to my lung and reinflated the lung
it was pretty nuts. It likely had nothing to do with the smoking but smoking is a risk factor for it happening again so I had to stop

I don't think it was due to smoking. I was never a big smoker anyway, I was a pack a week maybe and only for about a year or two. My body type is very susceptible to lung collapse for some reason.

because I was hitting 30 a day habit that was mostly 20 for 8 years and couldn't stop, I was out of breath on my 5 min walk to the corner shop to pick up a pack
I got stressed at this fact and chain smoked half the pack I just bought and vomited ,patches and gum didn't work and I nearly got prescribed chantix but I don't think a robot could survive the pills and would be a prime candidate for the symptoms
cigarettes where 7 quid a pack, I think they are past 8 now
I read the Quit Smoking with Allen Carr's Easyway to Stop Smoking book which kinda helped
I blew my months reserved money for smokes on a vapebox, which was a risky move but payed of as I quit instantly and used the book to help my ride through to come of that
I haven't fucking smoked in 10 months and can actually taste and smell and not choke on a brisk walk
smoking is the dumbest fucking thing I have ever done and I cringe when I picture my self walking down a street with one

A few reasons. Firstly, I'm too cheap to buy new packets of cigarettes here in the United States. After I ran through all of my Gold Flake, I smoked a ton with my boss and coworker. I started coughing up mucous after a few months and noticed that my hair loss seemed to be accelerating. My teeth also got more yellow and I could tell my lungs were taking a toll in regards to air intake capacity.
Quitting hasn't been hard for me.

Anyway, I still smoke. It won't immediatly cause problem, but it will cause some. You get used to the feeling of a collapsed and it gets better after a few week.

I was fine three days after the lung was reinflated. It was a spontaneous collapse, not due to any sickness or frailty or damage so it pumped right back up. I couldn't fly for a month or go scuba diving but that was it

It happened to me a few times in the past year. It hurts like a bitch tho. I could barely walk and talk, but it really gets better on its own after some time. It's probable my my lung wasn't completely fucked, so maybe it was easier to recover.

Is it possible to have a collapsed lung but not notice it?
I had similar symptoms a while ago, basically a sharp back in back whenever I breathed. Also my body type is very inclined to it, im like 6'3 and 155 pounds.
But, it went away I guess and I can breath fine now. Is it possible that I had one, or would it not have healed on its own?
I'll go a few days not smoking but something stressful always comes up and I end up buying a pack.
