Actually, modern society was as much benefited by the technological arms race that happened largely between government-funded research centers during world war 2 and in fear of nuclear war as it was from "muh capitalism".
Also, capitalism has no real mechanism to ensure general research is funded, despite how important it is to everyone and everything.
I'm kind of shocked how often I see people defend capitalism like it's a fucking religion instead of just a convenient way to distribute things, and I'm especially shocked that people think it's the only system that will ever exist or could ever work despite the capitalism we speak of today largely emerging in the 1970s.
