My younger sister thinks I'm a creep and so do her friends. They don't really bully me or anything, but I catch a glimpse of smug smirking in their faces sometimes. I can't imagine what they say about me when I'm not around.

Only child here. My dad's only sibling, his estranged lesbian sister, sued over their fathers' estate after their father died almost 40 years ago, and just generally made a mess of things.
Later, this woman had an LTR with another woman who I'm still on very good terms with. The blood relative though, the aunt, had the Evil Gene. For some reason, about ten years ago she moved out and away a few miles, and cut contact with the family.
About seven years later, dad had persuaded his mom to move into a very nice home, and she (grandma) resented it so much that she stopped paying rent on the place, and in response, dad went over her batty old head and into her own account (he still had POA) to pay the back rent. Grandma incorrectly believed that people were stealing things from her, a common old-people thing that is sometimes true, but actually wasn't in her case. In response, grandma reached out to this sister/aunt as a matter of last resort. With the sister's help (after dad gave her one phone call calmly explaining to her that she had been out of the picture for seven years, that she should not help their mother with this move because to do so is not actually in their mother's best interest, and here are the reasons xyz why you should not do this), the sister of course helped their mother into the new place just long enough for grandma to write dad out of her will, and promptly drop dead from the stress of the move a few weeks later. A family friend stayed away from the funeral because he knew that he would not be able to contain himself if he saw this aunt, because the family friend knew what she had done. My immediate family (mom, dad, me) have collectively written this woman off. They did get half the money in the end at least, since mom was a beneficiary.

I imagine that if I had a sibling, and really communicated with them, that we could work things out eventually. Maybe that's a false idea. All I know is that I feel bad when siblings actually are there for each other. Because I'll never have that. I've had friends but since we're not blood that means I'll always be replaced.

Only child raised by a single mom and her parents. I remember it wasn't that bad being an only child while I was younger but I just ended up growing more and more distant to them except my grandpa. Certainly doesn't help that they all argue every week over trivial shit, and recently all I've been wanting is something like OP mentioned. It doesn't help that literally all but 2 friends have sisters and brothers. It makes me kinda jealous whenever they mention stuff like "My sister did this for me" or "My brother's great" etc. I can't relate to their unconditional love and it makes me feel horrible

A older sister is like be an only child, but you have to share some things. I only speak with her when is necessary, and she didnt care about me. You're correct that the aunt sucks and that the grandma broke bad (she held grudges over 60 years old), but the immediate family are 10/10. You don't know them. They always hugged me enough, never failed to pick me up from an appointment, and they each decided that they didn't want to be like their respective parents. They're still married (so I was not subjected to divorce hell like others) and have always supported me emotionally. It's for that very reason that we've written off the sister.
OTOH plenty of non-existent black "families" suck (where's dad?), and arabs routinely take it too far (over-represented cousin marriage keeping their IQs in 90s territory) You could probably make an argument that asian/hispanic families are "tighter" though, but I still wouldn't want to be them.
