What's funny is the only time I tried to branch out from boxers was when I was desperately TRYING to escape the no relationship, virgin, uncool, etc box I felt I was in.

Met a girl on /soc/ years ago when it was new, we dated for a year. It was not a good relationship, but it gave me the confidence (validation, losing virginity) to actively try to date. And I got a positive response from dating.
So basically I got the validation I needed to stop the kind of behavior that makes me worry about what fucking underwear I'm wearing or planning the perfect move to talk to a girl or whatever. I was supremely autistic about it before. Now I know I have it in me somewhere to attract girls, and I just kind of drift along contently with that.
One thing I should say is that a GF doesn't solve all your problems or make things awesome by default. It brings a whole bunch of new problems. It solves the validation issue but sometimes won't even fix the loneliness issue because you'll come to resent the person. Just saying.
