Signs of chronic and lifelong mouth breathing

-Recessed chin and jaw with a undefined jawline
-Protrusive, crooked nose
-Strained mentalis (chin) muscle
-Bad posture (forward head)
-Asthma, sleep apnea or other breathing issues
-Bad breath and dry mouth when waking up
-Droopy eyes with a negative angle
-Weak cheekbones
-Sloping forehead

>>27474229
The hard palate forms around the tongue and the jaw forms in the direction that its muscles push it. When you mouth breath your whole life, you deprive your maxilla and mandible of the pressures it needs, and your face ends up malformed just like a baby born in space.

It is exceedingly simple. The human face grows a considerable amount, nearly doubling in size throughout the lifespan, and while the bone is soft, malleable and growing, numerous forces are able to shape it. The tongue reaches forces up to twice as powerful as braces.

These are two mouthbreathing sisters, one who corrected her habit, and the other who did not. Notice the difference in jaw angle and how the sister on the right has to flex her mentalis muscle to keep a lip seal.

So many 8/10's were turned into 2-3/10's because of mouthbreathing. Is it a coincidence that 20-50% of youths in developed countries have dental crowding and need braces? When a jaw grows vertically, the space available to the teeth becomes smaller (think geometrically).

All hunter gathers in the past had perfect, straight teeth with plenty of room in their mouths. No one had to get braces or wisdom teeth pulled.

The upper jaw and teeth grow around the tongue. If the tongue is on the roof of the mouth, the arch will be wide and the facial bones high. If the tongue does not rest there, due to mouth breathing or other issues, the bones will be low and vertical instead.

Would you say there's ever such a thing as overdevelopment? This girl's face looks great, but it's so rare to see jaws that forward, I'm kind of weirded out at the same time.
>>
>>27474374
>Is it a coincidence that 20-50% of youths in developed countries have dental crowding and need braces?

This is less to do with mouthbreathing and more to do with diet. Children in developed countries tend to eat diets that are very low in fiber, especially when compared to those eaten by children in undeveloped countries.

The forces exerted by years spent chewing vigorously to break down fibrous food helps the teeth maintain proper alignment. Without that daily heavy chewing action to keep them in place, the teeth grow all fucked up and require braces to fix.

>All hunter gathers in the past had perfect, straight teeth with plenty of room in their mouths. No one had to get braces or wisdom teeth pulled.

Because they ate anywhere from 50-100g of fiber a day.
>>
>>27474726
Overdeveloped wasn't the word I meant to use. I think it's just because that structure looks like it belongs on somebody older, at least IMO considering I have a melted rat face.

>>27474726
Yes. Some people have pituitary issues or too much GH which causes their jaws to grow out too far.

If only one jaw is sticking out, then you have an underbite or an overbite.

In terms of aesthetics, forward jaws are more desirable on men. In Asia, people with jaws and cheekbones that are too defined are considered unattractive because it is a peasant feature (peasant farmers eat hard foods).

>>27474769
That too. Proper diet and posture (tongue and body) all contribute. But mouth breathing has an undeniable effect. It has the exact same effect on monkeys as humans, causing downward growth . If the length of the mandible is the same in a mouth breather and a nose breather, then the nose breather, who has a more horizontal jaw, will have more space for their teeth. Crowding causes misalignment. The tongue and its pressure creates the proper arch shape in the hard palate which creates a template for straight teeth to grow from the top. Chewing aligns the bottom teeth.

There's actually some hope. Bones continue to change throughout your life through remodeling and other forces. Stroke victims develop assymetrical bone structures due to lack of muscular tension on one side. Old people experience unique changes in their jaws.

>>27475578

If you see in my picture, two years of excellent posture, diet and nose breathing can change your face to some degree.

>The remodeling cycle consists of three consecutive phases: resorption, during which osteoclasts digest old bone; reversal, when mononuclear cells appear on the bone surface; and formation, when osteoblasts lay down new bone until the resorbed bone is completely replaced.

This is the worst, I wake up every morning with dry mouth and sometimes in the middle of the night. That's why I keep water next to my bed, also brushing my teeth doesn't even get rid of the bad breath, I have to use mouthwash to make sure my breath smells fresh. Don't know whats so delusional about this m8? I'm guessing you don't or haven't experienced this so you probably don't get it.

This shit really fucks up your face. You look ugly growing up, you get picked on for it, and suddenly when you graduate high school your self esteem is in the shitter. Since your looks dont improve much if at all during college, you still carry that combination of ugly on the outside and terrible insecurity on the inside. Sure, most of your peers are mature enough now to not make fun of you to your face, but you can tell how they really feel when you ask girl after girl out and its constant rejection.

Anyway, OP, would you recommend jaw surgery as the true surefire method to fix this? Or at least the method with the best chance of improving it?
>>
>>27479024
Jaw surgery has a substantial rate of dissatisfaction with patients. Either the surgery isn't done very well or not changing the bad oral posture that helped your jaw shift downward in the first place will make the results relapse over time. There are some cases where the person's life completely changed from the surgery, but many people regret it. You should do a ton of research before considering it, since it's a huge decision and risky. (not OP, btw)

Right before your cherry-picked quote from Wikipedia was this:
>It has been suggested that chronic mouth breathing in children can lead to the development of a long, thin face, sometimes termed "long face syndrome", or specifically "adenoid facies" when the mouth breathing is related to adenoid hypertrophy. Malocclusion of the teeth (e.g. "crowded teeth") are also suggested to result from chronic mouth breathing in children.

Also,
>Chronic mouth breathing in children may have implications on dental and facial growth.

It also mentions tongue thrusting and open bites as associated with mouth breathing, both of which I had. (plus mouth breathing)

>are you seriously getting your information about your health from an anime board
No, more people are talking about this than just 4chan. (Mike and John Mew [orthotropics], claimingpower.com, sluthate)

I had orthodontic treatment for years in addition to lifelong problems with oral posture, body posture, breathing, swallowing, bad breath, and more. My brothers and sisters who keep their mouths closed/don't slump over/swallow properly, etc.. look better than I do. My teeth were shit, theirs weren't and still look better despite no treatment.

People in these threads have talked about how braces made their face look even worse, which is why some refer to the process of trying to raise their maxilla up as an adult as "reverse orthodontics".

The idea is that mouth-breathing gives no support for the upper jaw, so it will slowly grow down. How many kids in pre-school and kindergarten have long faces and bad teeth? A very small number. Most kids that age can be seen as cute, whereas the popular/attractive kid hierarchy becomes a lot more obvious after a few years when some of their jaws retrude. Most of them have a rather square face when young, I find it hard to believe that so many of them suddenly get uglier, longer faces because it's in their genes.

I don't know a whole lot. If it's usually corrected in growth for infants, doesn't that not really relate to what I'm talking about? It doesn't sound very common, especially since it's linked with a bunch of other syndromes.

I'm talking about kids who have regular facial growth when younger and it gradually gets worse, not when they're already born with a bad chin/mandible. Like this guy >>27474159
having a good face when he was 10. It makes no sense that it would randomly collapse unless he ruined his own growth, which was probably caused by mouth breathing from being around a gerbil. (which he was allergic to)

>It also mentions tongue thrusting and open bites as associated with mouth breathing, both of which I had.
if this is really the case then maybe, but then i would say youre the exception.
>No, more people are talking about this than just 4chan. (Mike and John Mew [orthotropics], claimingpower.com, sluthate)
is this satire?
please
dont make me laugh.

this only highlights your desperation to find a culprit for your troubles. i think you should see a psychologist before you see an orthodontist

i think theres something to be said about the selection of your sources too. theyre distinctly the ones which most clearly draw the connection, as opposed to Wikipedia which leaves the link tenuous
>The idea is that mouth-breathing gives no support for the upper jaw, so it will slowly grow down.
that makes absolutely no sense
sounds like pure conjecture
>I find it hard to believe that so many of them suddenly get uglier, longer faces because it's in their genes.
right, theres just a fucking epidemic of mouth breathing children
almost all your evidence is conjecture/anecdote
please fuck off

>>no no no i have this disease trust me i read it on webmd!!!!11
>ill believe you when your GP diagnoses you as such
What disease are you angrily insisting I claim to have? Anyone posting about this concept talks about bad posture and breathing making their jaws grow downward, that's it.

I actually asked my GP if there was anything related to my mouth breathing that caused bad teeth, he said he knows nothing about teeth & to talk to an orthodontist. This was while I had braces and had been seeing the doctor for asthma and sleep apnea for years, and he said there was nothing physically wrong with my throat/nose that caused me to mouth breathe. Same with the ENT specialist I saw.
Mouth breathing without adenoid hypertrophy AND malocclusion, go figure.

>it says WHEN it is related so mouth breathing leads to a long face WHEN it is related to dental problems
It says "adenoid facies" is the name given to long faces that result from adenoid hypertrophy, and that mouth breathing is suggested to cause malocclusion. Dental problems would happen if the face gets long, since there's less room for the teeth. If someone with adenoid hypertrophy has a long face and mouth breathes, any dental issues they have could be from mouth breathing.

>is this satire?
What source are you expecting from a niche theory? If more mainstream orthodontists (like the Mews used to be) were convinced, this would already be a near-universal opinion. This is literally the point of these threads, OP's trying to get the word out and change people's mind.

>this only highlights your desperation to find a culprit for your troubles
It highlights my curiosity to find out why all of my siblings' faces grew horizontally like in childhood, while mine grew down. After exhausting most traditional options by trying them myself with no luck, I'm wondering what the real cause is. You're not suggesting anything new, only getting pissy when I say that in my experience, what you're saying isn't true.

It's not just fiber
It's texture and volume

People today are eating high-energy density food, so they eat low volume. The food is also softer.

Think about how soft and energy dense a mcdonald's meal is

He retrains kids' oral posture and does surgery on adults if there's no other option, as far as I know. He's researching better treatment for adults so surgery/orthodontics becomes even less of an option for them, as the results are rarely good.

First of all, you got to start lifting. Read this book, image related, and start lifting.

Then you also got to address your posture. Search youtube for: "Thoracic Kyphosis Recovery"

Once you start lifting for a while your body fat percentage will lower making your body look much better, much more confident of course in your new strength and prowess, and with the posture fixes that should cover all bases on your physique.

And that is important because it will greatly help with confidence. But it is not enough. You need to read. You need to get information in your head. Just read everything, cover all bases. Try to get an understanding and a liking to a more masculine culture, like with YouTube and Million Dollar Extreme. You should watch their channel, I'm really recommending it sincerely.

That does not sound so hard does it? And I'm telling you, it will improve your life greatly. I have taken time writing this out for free as a charity, I hope you will listen to my advice, so I didn't waste my time here. Okay see you later, I'm going to bed.

That's probably not you, but the guy in the picture looks like a great example of mouth breathing.

There's other factors at play besides not breathing through the nose, such as proper body posture, keeping your mouth shut even if you breathe through your nose, proper swallowing pattern, and a decently tough diet. (for wider lower jaws, too)

exactly, its about the connection
it doesnt seem theres a real strong link between mouth breathing by itself and actual long faces
