What does /r9k/ think of the 90s? Overrated decade, or the last decent era in recent history?

90s was the best decade for the internet.

No ads, no pop ups and every kind of thing you can imagine at your fingertips without ever worrying about the fbi knocking on your door.

I was pretty pumped when MSDN sent Longhorn my way. But it had been 3 years since Windows 2003 at that point.

It was the high for America, everything seemed possible and people were all hopeful, it was nothing but a downward spiral ever since

In hindsight, it is total shit.

90s is an irrelevant decade culture-wise since everything that made it good is freely available on the internet. snes golden age? download all games in seconds. tv? just look them up on netflix. point being, other decades had movements and scenes associated with them. sure I can download the tracklist to woodstock, but the communal experience will never be replicated. essentially, most eras have a communal feel to them. you could be in a coma from 90 to 2000 and still get the same experience on the basis of the still available consumer products. irrelevant decade.

>blaming free trade
The American auto industry was already shutting down rust belt plants years before NAFTA, both as straight-up production cuts and to move capacity to non-union states in the South. Besides, even if NAFTA had never happened, you'd still be competing against automation.

Free trade is also why your standard of living is as high as it is. Pretty much everything you buy is several times cheaper because of it.

>muh prices

It's hard to care about prices when your pay is so shit it barely feels any different.
>>
>>27455681
>shit pay, low prices
>shit pay, high prices
I know which one I'd pick. No, there isn't a "you get paid better" option, not with the amount of stuff they can automate now.

Car prices have increased significantly, even adjusting for inflation

But muh invisible hand

>shit pay, high prices

That's not how economics works though.

Normal people got shafted and they will continue getting shafted with tpp.

Spin it however you like with your economic mumbo jumbo but the outcome is always the same...its the little guy that gets shafted.

Cars also last a lot longer and get much better mileage than they used to. I drive a fifteen year old car that runs fine with over 150k miles on it, and get 40MPG. That would have been inconceivable in the 1970s.

>>27455746
Yes it is. Lack of free trade protects domestic companies from competition. To continue with the car thing from above, if Japanese imports had never been allowed, would the cozy oligopoly of the Big Three have improved the quality of their cars? No, they'd just keep making junk, knowing that consumers had no choice but to buy it. The savings from reducing the amount of labor they used wouldn't be passed on, because the protectionism prevents someone from abroad from bringing in a better product, and domestic competition can easily be bought out or smothered.

Reducing competition (which is what protectionism does) never results in things getting better. It results in complacent monopolies with no incentive to improve their products or lower prices.

>That would have been inconceivable in the 1970s.

No it wouldn't. Where do you shill faggots get this shit?
>>

Ask your parents, anon. Cars came with 12k-mile, one-year warranties. You were lucky if it was still running decently after four years or so. If it didn't break down, rust would come for it soon after, if you didn't live in the desert southwest.
