I'm not sure that it is. I'm not an expert. But it does say something that my grandparents weren't like that, I suppose. They were hardworking, only indulged in whiskey every now and then. Even my paternal grandmother worked as a nurse for most of her life. None had higher than a sixth grade education and they still liked to watch TV, but they weren't degenerates at least.
The reason that I don't think my lot in life is due to genetics is because I broke out of that cycle. I'm in graduate school, I make three times as much as any person in my family ever has.
But maybe there were great genetics wasted on all of them, underneath it all. Maybe all I broke through was poverty. I don't believe I got anywhere without hard work and helping myself though.
