There's almost pressure to play down either intellect or knowledge.
On the other hand, showing off above-average physical strength or social dominance is almost expected.
Why is this? Both could arguably make mediocre people feel insecure, but it seems like smart or bookish people have to tone it down in front of normies in a way that people with other abilities don't have to.
Congratulations, you're autistic
it's not rude its just annoying shitheads like you talk about humanitarian subjects and try to seem like an intellectual when your not.

I'm not talking about me. I'm talking about actually smart people, as in guys with PhDs and stuff.
You can't deny that there's an expectation in mainstream society for intellectuals to play down that stuff in a way that other people aren't expected to act humble.
No one likes a know it all tryhard faggot
You're definitely not as smart as you think you are or you would have figured out how to make friends

Because there is a time and a place for it. You just don't use specialist vocabulary unless you are talking to someone who is on your level, there is no reason to do so and it makes you look like a massive prick.

Pretty much this, it's a feeling you'll understand based on how they talk, how they dress, and how they act around people.
Because people interpret it as talking down to them or just don't understand it. I imagine a really educated person has to either stoop or teach about certain subjects. I'm not even sure what a real "intellectual" looks like, it's become a buzzword.
I honestly don't know, you can't ever toot your horn about being smart without catching all kinds of flak for it, even if you are. People do everything in their power to make you doubt. Maybe people just like to talk way more than they like to listen?

Acting humble is pretty standard in basically all human cultures anon, it's not limited to intellectualism
I guess you have to tailor your actions to what people like, if showing off intellect and knowledge makes people resent you eventually you learn it isn't socially acceptable and stop doing it except around a select group of people you know won't shoot you for it
conditioning?
I reckon
that's all I've got, family. Pinning it on a single cause is futile. People won't have it.
yep, I reckon
