What's the point of collecting hunks of plastic that just sit on your shelf? You get no entertainment of them. Especially hunks of plastic as expensive as anime figures.
What is the appeal? Back when I bought Transformers the hunt of going from store to store was more fun than having the figures, but it was never truly worth the money.

They're not hunks of plastic, they have symbolic and meaningful value to (most of) their owners, much like family heirlooms and certain decorative objects. I understand that it's not for everybody, but it's not irrational to understand why people like them.

I don't know what you consider major, but I do have rent and all the regular bills, a small student loan payment every month. I put money into savings since I'm planning to get a house next year.
There's still plenty of money left over to have fun with. Researching things has always been one of my favorite things to do, which is a big part of collecting. I have meticulously organized wishlists that have thousands of books each, and keep online catalogs for my collections for which the metadata is always up-to-date. I do the same for anything I get interested in. I just really like cataloging information and hoarding items.
Anyway, I'm heading out right now. Will argue more if the threads still here later.

People find arbitrary things to complain about like the condition of the box.
