But I wanted to say something first, and I wanted to remind you of something as well. What I want to say is that life is a story. You might have heard this from me before. So I'm reminding you. I'm reminding you that this, all of this that you're experiencing, all of it...it's just a story. It's a story that began and that will end.
You probably already know this. But sometimes we need to be reminded.
And maybe, just maybe, when this story ends we'll get to sit down and read it. Read it and see just how ridiculous it all was.
If you want, I can even read your story with you.
I'll sit down with you and together we'll laugh, cry, and read it all from start to finish. Even through the bad parts. And when we're done we can start another story, in another world...or you can take a rest. Lie back and finally get the sleep that you deserve.

What if this life you're living isn't what you think it is? What if it's something entirely different. Just as how an infant doesn't know life outside the womb, living in a world that we no longer remember...what if we're living in a life after one that we no longer remember?
For all we know this life could be a magical spell. Crazy and stupid, I know. But what if we're actually in one of those fantasically worlds. And we're just here right now because some bastard cursed us into some fake world, this world, and we're just waiting for our friends to free us?
Wouldn't that be a thrill? You're actually on an adventure in some other world and this life, this experience, is all an illusion, a nightmare, as the villain is trying to stop you and your friends?
Maybe even the friends we have now...maybe even me, we're all just trying to wake you up.

A lot of the delight I find in doing it is already nullified knowing from doing it so many times is that when presented an opportunity to prove that they can just be an asshole again they'll take it. It's not that it takes away the shame they'll feel I don't really want that to stick it was just in the moment. It's that I have to do it all over again, how tedious.
I guess in the end I'd rather they could reclaim some dignity, but when they have to do it in a way that prolongs the conflict it means upping the ante and I dislike using more force than necessary. The restraint and discipline needed to be more than a rabid animal isn't that appealing and feels kind of demeaning to me.
