I have an HTC One and I fucking hate it. Comes pre-installed with a billion apps you can't uninstall. Thanks, I really needed this unremovable NFL manager app. Not to mention the planned obsolescence these phones have (you can't replace the batteries when they go to shit). It pisses me off.
Motorola Photon Q, because muh physical keyboard. Came out in late 2012, don't really see a reason why I'd need a modern phone, especially not a flagship. Flashed CM12 onto it to get rid of Gapps. Really any smartphone is more than I need.

i have a broken Nexus 5 that i hated at first but grew to like it. now that it's bricked i'm using my brother's semi-functional Galaxy S 6 and i hate it (mostly because it's only semi-functional).
right now i'm debating the Nexus 6, the new LG G5, or iPhone 6 or SE. it feels overwhelming to look at all the different specs though. mostly i'm worried i'll miss the Google integration if i go to iPhone.

I recently bought a Lumia phone. Never thought I would say it it but I am HOOKED. The aesthetic of the interface is top notch, very intuitive, and Cortana is amazing.

You can get an android phone for like $50 from Virgin Mobile and pay $30/month for service. I think that's the cheapest, best option. Smartphones are amazing, you can lurk /r9k/ on the go and use Google Maps as GPS.

Android offers more freedom, you can install an Autistic freedumbtard rom, tweak. Basically anything, block botnet services in apps, restrict wake locks so your CPU is in deep sleep more (better battery life).
Install Linux through chroot use a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse with a display through micro hdmi or mhl and have a computer with you wherever you go, with internet.
Run steam and play the fairly large selection. Of loonix games on any intel based smartphone, even run Windows software through wine, or Windows itself through qemu kvm at decent speeds.
Literally every complaint can be fixed with a custom rom or xposed modules.

I like this thing a lot, it's so big you could mistake it for a small tablet. I can type more easily with this since I have sausage fingers. It's got a good res and is good for watching movies. It also has enough power to play 3D graphic games.
On the downside, you can't find protector cases from a normal store, you need to order them online and they cost a bunch. While this thing's surprisingly durable, I managed to damage the back panel's entachment bits a bit, on the bottoms side, so now the panel's kinda flobby, sound output is weird and the phone's no longer water-tight.
Overall I give 9/10, barely.

I myself have an HTC One and I bought a Moto G to replace it since it is almost 3 years old.
I am satisfied but the phone has some flaws.
Anyway don't fall for the smartphone meme, you don't need a 700$ phone.
Just get something like a Nexus at 200 or 300$ and that still has good hardware and an OS with which you can actually download a movie on your browser without jailbreaking your phone, that is to say not IOS.
If you get an Android just remember to flash CyanogenMod or a different custom ROM so you can get rid of all the bloat and improve the battery life.
Galaxy s7. Pretty awesome. Only thing I don't like, besides the fact that custom ROMs aren't out yet since it's new, is the screen is so close to the edge that the base of my thumb sometimes activates something I didn't want to when I'm holding it.
Get an Android phone and install cyanogenmod or some comparable custom ROM, it will be far superior to iPhones in every meaningful way. I had a galaxy s4 and you can pick one up on eBay for like 70 I think.

I'm thinking of replacing it for a smaller phone like the xiaomi redmi 3. 150$ with 4g LTE, Sd card expension slots, 4100mah battery and a 5 inch 720p screen with mid range specs and the latest android version with MIUI. Seriously we don't need beast specs, always overhyped. You're only gonna use your phone for music, messaging, internet and porn anyway. Never spending more than 250$ on a phone ever again.

I like my LG G4. I've got a custom ROM, kernel, the works. However I'm a stickler for the stock LG skin so I don't use CyanogenMod or any of the sort. Also carry a spare battery with me just in case. Works well. At first the curve of the screen bothered me, but it's hardly noticeable after some time.

Google just started their own phone service call project fi. You need a nexus phone to use it and if you do sign up for one month then they will sell the nexus at like 250 dollars. The service is 20 a month pay as you go no contract. I think it is the best phone plan with out getting into slavery with contracts with the big carriers.
