What anime is best for helping ignore depression? I have Netflix and time. Please share your favs and help a bot out.

Thanks.

I'm finishing hunter x hunter now (my first anime) and I need more. But there are so fucking many that I'm intimidated.
>>
Read manga instead.

90% of anime are just adaptations intended to boost the sales of manga and light novel series. They don't even cover the full stories they're trying to adapt.

You fucked up watching HxH first because that's one of the best things anime has to offer.

It's not even finished on Netflix, so go grab the rest of the show and watch it, you dumb bitch.

>tfw now that i've seen my nigga Kyoraku's bankai i don't really care but honestly want it to finally end soon
>>

Bleach has been shit for like a decade now man. It became unbearably shit when Aizen got "defeated" back in like 2010.
>>
>>27370958
But the money...

>>27371004
Okay. Don't know who this is, but will do.

Technically, hxh is not my first. My first was pokemon and then digimon and then toradora. But I don't think those actually count.

>>27371019
I didn't know. Fuck me. What is the next best thing anime has to offer?

I liked the premise of Sword Art Online and gave it a spin, but the dialogue is fucking painful and I can't watch it.
>>
>>27371059
fullbringer shit was gay and pointless but i liked the first invasion of the new/final arc but since then it's pretty shit, i've just kept following it to see previously mentioned bankai (which i thought was pretty cool but lille or w/e was fucking retarded)

now it's just fan service for the nips at this point but it takes like 20 seconds to read and i want to see how it all ends other than the obvious 'itsygo saves the world'

Google "read manga online." Hundreds of websites.

Go to mangaupdates.com, find the series you want, see who's scanlating it, go to their website and download.

It's not hard.

Why the fuck are you watching it on netflix? Download it you stupid nigger

Gurren Lagann is on Netflix. Watch that.

SAO is fucking garbage.

Learn to download anime and then find a rec chart you pussy. It's not hard.

Comcast has data cap now, the fuckers. I don't want to download a 40GB show an end up hating it.

Starting Gurren Lagann. I don't trust the rec charts. That's where I found a rec for Sword Art Online and it was garbage.

Mushishi is chill as fuck. About tiny paranormalish bugs that can do all kinds of things and a man who travels and helps people or bugs out. Reaaally chill vibes.
I just started kino's journey, which appears to be a girl travelling to different countries, observing and maybe helping if need be, and always moving on. She has a talking motorcycle as only companion.

Whatever you do, don't go to /a/ to ask for recommendations. /a/ is NOT for recommendations.

Deathnote, Full Metal Alchemist, Attack on Titan and Steins Gate are decent entry level, mainstream shows for a begginer.
>>
>>27371451
/a/ is full of annoying faggots.
>>
>>27371367
You can switch it. I'm just dumb.

It's really good so far. Very cute. I love the whole mix of humor and action. It's my favorite combo.

>>27371401
Girl and talking motorcycle - Seems legit. Is it cutesy?

>>27371451
I think I'll try Deathnote. I also keep seeing No Game No Life mentioned. Is it good?
>>
>>27371478
It's good that you think that.
That's exactly why /a/ adopts this stance towards recommendations and mainstream stuff in general, so it doesn't attract newfags and ledditors.
As a result, the discussion level on /a/ is propably one of the best on this site and has managed to stay high over the years, while other boards have deteriorated.

Why is Hunter x Hunter so good? Literally. It is my favorite thing I have ever watched (anime or otherwise) and I feel really sad that I have almost finished it. Unless there are a shit ton more episodes that never made it to Netflix.
>>
I'm jealous of you OP.
Anime, manga, novels etc.
I've read/watched/played so many amazing things. I wish I could be at your position again and experience stuff like LOGH and MLA for the first time again.

Glad you're enjoying it, anon. It's seriously one of the most inspirational shows ever made. If you finish it and decide you want something similar to it, check out FLCL, Kill la Kill, maybe Gunbuster and Diebuster, and consider reading One Piece, which belies its later themes and great fights with a veneer of goofiness.

One Piece has a scene where a bunch of then underdog nobodies set the world government's flag on fire as a declaration of war all to save one crew member and it's the most awesome shit ever.

>is No Game No Life good

No, not really, but its entertaining.

Kino is not really cutesy so much as surreal, but it's very good.
>>
>>27371563

There are 148 episodes. Netflix hasn't added the later episodes just yet, though it is in the final animated arc.

As I said, you fucked up by watching it first. It's a refinement and careful exploration of battle shounen generally, and both celebrates and subverts a lot of the common tropes that had been first developed by the proper grandaddies of the "genre" (Jojo and Dragon Ball).

I'm not entirely sure what it does that makes me like it so much more than other anime/manga series. The situations are sharp and relatively complex without being overwhelming, and the characters are properly stylish and surreal without losing a genuine sense that they are actual humans. There's a certain tension between reality and fantasy in HxH that is balanced so well that the setting feels natural but surprising at the same time, and everything just seems fresh and dangerous and cool.

I agree it's fucking great, and I went into it thinking I'd hate the show.
>>
>all the entry level in this thread
I mean the guy is literally at entry level but still.

Visual Novels>Manga>Light Novels>Anime, but anime and manga are much easier to get into then novels.

Light novels and visual novels are notoriously poorly written. Manga is where the real Japanese nerd action is, while anime serves primarily as complex advertisement for other media.

But then again, I'm telling this to a nerd that doesn't even know the difference between then and than and thinks not reading his brand of weeb vice means not reading at all.
>>
>>27371451
Is one supposed to watch Full Metal Alchemist, or the OVA? I watched both and was told the OVA was better, but I can't decide.
>>
>>27372084
There are about as many poorly written VNs and LNs as there are shitty manga and anime. There are a bunch of trashy self insert gary stu LNs, but also amazing ones like Spice and Wolf, just like in any medium.

VNs are notoriously poorly translated, not poorly written. Baldr Sky, White Album 2, Muv Luv Alternative, Chross Channel and so on are written beautifully, not that you would know. Even comparing them with a blanket statement shows you have no idea at all what you are talking about. Feel free to reply with more ignorance you disgusting secondary, but don't expect another response to your bait.
>>
>>27372151

You watch Brotherhood, which is the adaptation of the manga, and you ignore the original series.

Wow.

You should probably start reading actual novels.

You just give the image of someone who's never read any LNs or VNs.

Try playing the Muv-Luv trilogy and G-Senjou no Maou and tell me they're badly written.

Its refreshing to see a series that doesn't put the main characters give up their spotlight at times for interesting side characters that actually drive the story forward.

The fact that Togashi planned ahead a battle system which makes it fresh and unique but still has certain rules makes fights so much more enjoyable.
